Just give each hidden that you don't want public outlined conditions; i.e
sfw - can be attained upon one-two condition being met; come in contact with fire item fight super strong foe and pushed fire to limit etc its a fighting game, if people want a hidden they should have to fight at some point, so just let their first hidden be rfee, and if they want to go for more, they must fight (10-20-2021, 12:30 PM)Senshi Wrote: Just give each hidden that you don't want public outlined conditions; i.e Wrong forum! You may have confused the forums of the popular game 'Apex Legends' with our beloved 'Chronicles of Esshar' forum. Wrong number. This is a Roleplay game with PvP mechanics but not a 'fighting game'. Another Topic (Personal Opinion): Even when I understand the idea of locking a hidden behind a RPL; it only makes the game require more time of the player. Personally I don't have the time to reach things like RPL210 to achieve a hidden. It heavily affects those that already are struggling between a job / life / Eternia to balance things more as it makes you feel that if you don't reach certain point you're going to be left behind. ( Biased Opinion ) I've always seen a Hidden as a reward for reaching growths of characters and I believe we can see how many times RPL doesn't mean anything when it comes to a character growth.

This fighting game has the worst netcode I've ever seen and you can barely go beyond 5 strings at the best of times.
In all seriousness though I'm not a fan of emphasis being put onto the pvp side of things. As someone who hasn't been a battlecuck since E1 fighting isn't all there is to a character and, as a perma DM, tying these tokens to event rewards isn't too great either considering how scarce they can be. I know the core idea is to replace the journal system but I don't think we should be removing it entirely, it fills and important role in allowing a person to show off what they've accomplished so far and basically advertise themselves for something fun and exciting for them. For something like a master stance, yes we should have an automatic system in place. Maybe even something to allow people to customise activation text on the fly or tie in spell recolours to them (have the default spells as greyscale with the person choosing a colour on a colour wheel to add onto it much like how the hair and basic clothing sprites work.) But for exalted plus there should be a distinct journey shown to acquiring and they shouldn't be a consolation prize for hitting enough dangers or a certain RPL it's an issue I've seen people have with monster races in the past that they got given hiddens just for harassing enough people and while that can be seen as one measure of a character's impact on the world it's also not indicative of any kind of quality or development.

if this is a fighting game, then block this overhead lmao
Maybe it's from playing the game already, for so many years. Applications originally, to journals now. With a pseudo application process thrown into the mix. I'm one for a /semi/ removal of the whole thing. I do feel as though there are some that should remain as (Hiddens).
Mythic abilities for instance. Even as someone who battles a lot. Idk how to feel about dangers encouraging further strength. Oddly enough... (Despite that possibly being the only thing I have going for me.) The way I see it? People will just make more gimmicky builds. Dipping is still an issue, but idk... Tough to deal with situations like that. When you have to take into account people are playing their characters for over a month. Typically longer. Nobody wants to be /weak!/ Maybe alongside looking for a means to reward non-combative players? Could also sprinkle it onto those who remain theatrical with their builds? It could encourage people to do more. Single forms of magic if they knew they could become a supreme in that! Much like how I attempted with haarper. To push armed only, to its fullest. For both the love of armed pvp & the rp that came with. Could have non-combative? Be capable of doing bless like abilities onto fighters? Expanding the strengths of the Eboonbloods religion into every other culture. Could do wonders for improving the lorekeeper roles people like to take up. Maybe have merchants get a passive where coin occasionally drops from monsters? (Could be busted af doh.) Change humans to: Merchant/Fighter/Crafter (Make their passives all non-buffs, but maybe for fighter. +5 power?) Crafter keeps the negative reduction. merchants get idk.
i never said it had to be just fighting to get the hidden either you know
i said just have static conditions be met or get close to being met that are reasonable. concrete stuff that you can say a character has solidly done in order to bring them closer to what they want hell, it could even be more fluid in doing ANYTHING. even an ATTEMPT could be grounds to give you a clear on the condition met. what i'm saying is that some fuck who's sitting down doing NOTHING whatsoever shouldn't have more than one hidden you could even say something like uh master artificer needs to make 2-3 of their own uniquely crafted item descriptions in order to get it, just an idea that could be fixated when you want something really badly, you make a strive an effort, be it you failed or not give people something to strive for that fits the ic of what they want while it isn't bogged down by admin decision. its the most frank you can get with anybody while not giving freebies

actual completely useless suggestionless take (my brain is bad at taking in info so take any mistakes/misunderstanding w/ a grain of salt i've statistically never made a good take)
incentivising Dangerous Battle gives me the heebie jeebies because what plays out in my head is people trying to squeeze in as many dangers is an possible - which, in theory, Can Be A Good Thing thing - but it can be demotivating. people CAN play to win Or Get Smoke (not all). this is a personal me moment. its nice when everything feels organic. please don't encourage jimmy who's fighting me and adding to his Big Danger Numbie solely for the purpose i looked at him funny at 3am in the middle of a forest and my shoes are neon red. please god i tried bartering with him and he insists we must engage in lethal combat. (unfunny overexaggeration of immensely rare moment.) but hey automation sounds good-er. elimination of possible subjectivity. very spicy. if only eternia 3 chronicles of esshar was a turn based card game. hey i remember door runes

My (possibly unpopular) opinion, is that this would be a great system for stances. They require very little actual storybuilding, if you're looking at the non signature ones, and they are relatively strong, while not being too much so. Being able to unlock these like any other stance, except using a HT as well would be nice, but as for actual Hiddens, I think there is some storytelling that will absolutely be skipped over if you're able to just pick what you want from your tree with tokens. Right now, people have to work and dev for hiddens. They're adding to the story of the game, and they have to go out and influence things for this to happen. Others get to see them write a story, and seeing a character grow and gain things like this is one of my favorite parts of Eternia. If we use HT's for actual hiddens, then just anybody who fights can get strong, and they don't necessarily have to tell a good story.
Part of the reason my interest in the game just kinda petered out is how combat tends to be snowball-y.
This change will make that even worse. To explain what I mean by snowball-y: Not good at verb? Well, then you get an injury making you even WORSE. Now, with this system, you're effectively telling players who aren't good at verb: "Hey, you want an actually GOOD ability? Either eat five perms, or go fuck yourself. Sure, there will theoretically be other ways for you to get those tokens, but let's face it, you either won't get them, or it will cost you roughly the same amount of perms received! Long term event chain? You can't verb, take your perms from the events. Voted by your faction? You can't verb, they have better people to vote for. Making a long term item? Gonna be REALLY hard to collect those ingredients. Direct admin reward? Good luck getting noticed." |
