Aethelwine

Not much is known of her past, but her appearance is common knowledge. A fallen figure imitating the divine.

Granddaughter of Athelios, the god of light and shadow, night and day, rivalry, justice, and forgotten places, Aethelwine once proclaimed herself the Goddess of Justice in honor of her grandfather. She sought to aid him in keeping the dark forces at bay in Helheim, but her brashness and arrogance would soon lead to her own humbling.

Through mysterious circumstances, an enigmatic entity twisted Aethelwine's personality and ambitions ever so slightly, altering the course of her divine purpose. Now known as the Goddess of Impartiality, she no longer upholds righteous laws just in the name of good. Instead, she seeks to bring unbiased judgment upon all who inflict pain upon others, regardless of their intentions.

Obsessed with inflicting the same pain upon wrongdoers that their victims have felt, it is said that wounds caused in her presence are mirrored onto the perpetrator.

The Goddess is known to maintain a retinue of mortal Acolytes, who are granted immunity from her wrath while they dispense judgment in her name. To keep a watchful eye over them, Aethelwine anchors a part of herself within the souls of her Acolytes. In return, they receive the boons of her divine blessing, empowering them to carry out her will and spread her doctrine of impartiality.

Rumors[edit]

The validity of these claims is up to speculation.

  • A formidable and malevolent entity within Helheim, so powerful that even Athelios couldn't suppress it, is believed to have coerced the Goddess into a contract that ultimately transformed her.
  • Legend has it that the Goddess captures the souls of the murderers she vanquishes, imprisoning them within her wings for unending torment, both for the souls and herself.
  • In the presence of the Goddess, pain and injury are said to be reflected onto the inflictor, as her Divine Right now embodies Impartial Justice.
  • Historical accounts suggest that Aethelwine once bore the appearance of a sacred angel before her transformation, with her angelic wings serving as compelling evidence for this claim.
  • Some argue that her grandfather, Athelios, was somehow responsible for the sudden change in Aethelwine. However, this theory remains hotly debated, considering she still allegedly venerates him.
  • The Goddess is said to possess the ability to look through the eyes of mortals, perceiving their souls and the sins contained within them.

Lorekeeper - OOC[edit]

This is a lorekeeper: A character played by a DM that has an active role in the world. They are different from standard PCs as follows,

  • Cannot join raids unless they're specifically a target; this includes all offensive battles.
  • Cannot intervene through combat to prevent a capture or be intervened on.
  • Should avoid roaming the map if it could potentially lead to hostilities unless disguised.
  • Can host mini-events, spawn items, etc, with GM supervision. Also acts as a mentor figure and gateway to potential magic or plot hooks.
  • Can kill / be a threat, but should do so with good reason and at a high standard.

OOC Notes for Acolytes[edit]
