Nethradin: Genuinely useless
#21
Nah I think Netheradins are perfectly fine to have open, I do think maybe Netheradins are ought to spawn in the dreadwoods, and maybe (as something players could do) there should be a Netheradin guild so even for those who don't want to be directly tied to the twilight coven, would still have reason to interact with them?

I'll save up some coins, start the guild up and all that jazz, plenty of Netheradins to merit having it in the first place.

Maybe look at the IC of RPing a dark spirit with ties to Hel'heim being available instead of trying to be OP and one shot people. So far, only one Nethradin has RPed with Jianyu since Shadowmire became a thing. You should focus on simply providing RP, given that this is a RP game and not a PVP game, or improve your verb, regardless, revel in the fact that Nethradin are essentially freely available in the game and not locked behind apps and a hidden ability like in Spires. Maybe they should be locked behind those again.

There's a reason most of the Nethradin haven't interacted with Jianyu ICly.

Also, the accusation of wanting to one-shot people is really fucking dumb m8. Asking for some form of mechanical racial perk isn't asking for much. I don't know what your problem is with me, but this is not the thread for it Ryo.

Anyone can tell you that Tinyhands isn't even a combat oriented character to begin with. He tries his best to avoid fights, if anything. I've done nothing but strictly follow the IC lore of a Nethradin being an ancient spirit, and offering deals and pacts to those who are willing to pay a price.

Kindly, get the fuck out with that shit. I didn't make this thread for your petty spite. This is a genuine issue with Nethradin, and honestly extends a bit even to other Monster races, as most of us are getting *absolutely rekt* out there because the benefits are outweighed by the downsides.

We’ve only had like three reliably active nethandrin... Confusedweats:

Not to discount what you are saying, it’s only fair for me to provide a counterpoint before people think we’re chock full of them.

nethradins would be cool with;

dreamwalk
telepathy
and maybe some weird contract ability!

but nothing huge. just small. i liked the previous idea of like blessings and stuff.
except maybe they also have like a 'list', so if someone betrays them, they strip them off the list.
and that person is given a temp in place of the blessing?
and to keep incentive for the nethradin's contractee's to keep it alive, if the nethradin dies they get temped as well.

i dont know how to balance things. but i do feel like out of all the races, nethradin should be the ones with the least mechanical benefit, and more oriented towards RP fluff instead to really hammer in the 'messenger and guides of witches' angle.

they're creepy, and eerie, and probably shouldn't be fighters but more plotters whom use others as fighters and try to pray on those who are;

1. low in willpower!
2. mentally unsound!
3. occultists!
4. power hungry!

smooth talkers. not big fighters.
I swear I'm not...

This seems very unnecessary and Aggressive but I do agree with the "RP game. Generate/Provide RP." Yes it is what everyone, specially antags, specially antag RACES should do. Now, it was mentioned on this thread about the role of Monsters and an approach to a more "support" role for Nethradin.

Absolutely, yes. Monsters are not meant to treat the Shadowmire as just a single faction, particularly it is a flaw that I see in the current mire, as I play there as a Main. Monsters are more personal threats, meant to be personal arc antags and, literally, develop for OTHERS. Public RP is about having fun with interesting scenes, knowing what is your character's potential to a scene and dev, but ALSO LETTING OTHERS bring creativity AND HAVING THEIR ROLES on RP. This is not just for monsters, this is not just for Nethradin. Now...

With the "Monsters just becomming a part of the repetitive, boring faction war/random demon faction (now with other appearances)" is bad, and the "Monsters are meant to be antags and move personal plots" in mind it becomes evident that on the potential, Nethradin, just for their heavy lore chains are VERY DEMANDING ON THAT. They shouldnt be that Ogre or Dullahan that beats everyone. There are races for that Role. Yes, monster races do have ""roles"" and a good RPer will have them in mind when creating a char. The Contract/Pact Idea is phenomenal and personally the best approach. Riftmancy would just most likely be a power boost or something. And Nethradin Dont EVEN NEED power to generate RP. That's different for Dullahans or other kinds of Monster, but just someone seeking witchcraft dev is enough to bring a Nethradin to a good position.

Dream walk is great, because it would do the work of the Nethradin trying to seduce someone into a pact. Taking the Hex skill from them might be good for sparing headache, but taking all option and just giving power boosts would kill the race completelly and its better to just delete it, otherwise its whole potential would be wasted. They dont need Power boosts, they need tools. Form groups, Cultists, preferably normal non monster PCs and spread the word of Hel. Nethradin are not meant to be Warriors.

TL;DR: Yeeeeah... Nethradin need some flavor because their lore demands it. Give dreamwalk and a pact-like blessing that NEEDS to be completed if agreed. Nethradin Dont need much power skill wise, they dont even need to fight to be important.
