PvP Complaint
#1
i miss spires combat

i hate how this game's pvp got dumbed-down. every aoe is 30 tiles, every wave is 80 tiles wide, we have 2 less skills in the skill bar,,. skills are expensive, not only you can't make a well-thought combo, but it's also hard to make unique, thematic trees 'cuz most ppl got the same tree combinations

block change was dumb too. now whoever brainlessly spams skills and dishes out more damage first wins...

boring pvp. thats why i just do casual

i much prefer this form of building than watching people endlessly dip into trees over and over again just for one spell because its meta

looking at you, mistform

yeah man i agree with you i prefer it like it is now, you just have to assume everyone uses gravity, explosion or time and you'll be right 90% of the time
its much better when people aren't dipping and instead everyone just has the same build

a completely separate issue not at all related to what i said, but an issue nonetheless

you had the same thing in spires, if you remove the rose tinted goggles. meta's come and go, spells change, and people will naturally build what they perceive, or what IS, the strongest

its just how these games work

Also to add to what Mouse said, I'd argue that the game has never been more diverse as far as the meta goes; you can very easily make any combination of trees work and still compete at the top end. It's hard to make a 'bad' build. Not to mention there's far more magic options available (and content within those options), so everyone being the same is a pretty off take.

(since none of this has anything to do with the confession thread's purpose, clipping + moving the posts to suggestions)

the reason for the block change originally is twofold, essentially. DR stacking is the least fun thing in the game and when combined with certain magic trees(sustains....), it becomes a problem. it could probably be raised a little bit now but moving it back to how high it was potentially enables a very not-fun not-interactive playstyle, even though it admittedly DOES lower the skill ceiling quite a bit by essentially making the game more about how fast you can burst

I don't think block needs to be changed.
There are still some builds out there capable of reaching 90% DR (with a buff) for up to 6 seconds at a time. Some builds can still do this for a total of 12 seconds if they are built right.

I forgot when I tried in-game PVP last time. It looks fine for me. I should do something with "support" mindset, but it's personal.

A lot of spells were added as public, which increased versatility, people can now make really powerful builds which were previously restricted.

I don't really verb much, as it's (in my opinion) a stressful experiment in repetition and learning hotkeys.

That said, I think the following changes would make PvP more fun, or at least interesting, in general.

  • Block DR raised to 50%, Block should be a GCDE spell that roots you, and should only last for as long as a 5 tile beam, so about two seconds. The cooldown on block could be something like 4 seconds. Optionally, keep it on the Z key, and have it show as a CD in the corner, akin to dash. (Thus it doesn't take a slot.)
  • Willpower should effect critical chance, and the 'debuff reduction' which -seems- useless, due to the rapid transition of stuns into GCDE spells, should be removed.
  • Agility should no longer effect critical chance, but should effect cooldown time.
  • Conjurer should be reworked in some manner to make it viable should change A take place, though I'm unsure how to do so.
Just my thoughts, please don't fucking bully me. I -will- cry.
