Reputation is a tool that allows people to express their opinion on certain things, it’s only natural that it would lead to some abuse from less than savory types to establish a point. I am known to do this, particularly when I find cause that I deem worthy of casting the shadow of 10 billion downvotes upon, casting the ire of hate and undignified red - marks. One must know when error was made so that they might feel the fury of the community when they make what is considered, a bad post.
This said, though this system does have its flaws, it also helps in the generation of content, such as the meme threads, and prevents many people from being a complete jackass, and instead phrasing their comments more eloquently so as to avoid the ire, anger, and fury noted above. I personally do not -like- the rep system, as it prevents me from telling people how I truly feel, as even I get the sweet dopamine hit from “_ likes your post!” which helps generate some form of socialization from my otherwise cold and bleak life. Naturally, I feel the cortisol hit when someone hits the - symbol, representing a personal insult, or otherwise disapproval. Thusly you must ask yourself this; “Do we want spicy memes, and helpful advice, and guides, or a forum which allows Avee and those like him to spew vitriolic hate across the forums?” While many of you may agree with either of those points, either for the liberation you feel when telling someone how you REALLY FEEL, or because the + mark actually helps generate interesting content be that in the form of guides or otherwise, I raise to you the following point. Do we want forums where new players will look and see vitriol, or do we want forums which will make new players giggle and smile, and get those sweet feel good points? I propose naturally that it is the latter. As much as I hate it, I know it in my heart to be true, and so do you. I’m Avee thanks for coming to my chat.

honestly even if we all agreed to the rep system being bad, what would we be able to do about it
like, do we have anybody that could just make it go poof, or would we all just magically make a new forums without it because the red/green was triggering us all

Rep can be invisible as well. For literal months the only person with rep was Jesse because I console'd my way into giving her rep just to see if I could. That being said Avee is right. Rep is for dopamine. Rep is to know that you've written something people thought was funny, relevant, or valid. Rep is to know who hates you OOCly when all they give are shallow downvotes without ever giving you an upvote even if they actually like your post. Rep is a social tool. Rep is the best discrete, yet visible way to be told your idea sucks or that it's great. Rep can be used to make jokes. Rep can be used to make people smile. It's a system that allows both a soft disapproval without the need for any comment and a roaring approval with just a click. The reputation system is more than mere imaginary internet points, it's a social construct allowing for better hindsight and insight at once. or maybe i'm just saying all that because i really like seeing my number go up
