Remove Rep from the forums - Apollo Densin - 11-17-2020
Rep on the forums is leading more and more to people abusing the down vote system. Instead of an actual conversation happening, they will down vote a post, then some people will taunt others on their negative rep that they have a post with a ton of negative reputation.
It is breeding a toxic environment in regards of groups of people jumping on a down vote train, to down vote IC posts that they just do not like because it affects their characters icly as an example.

If the player is new and generally just confused on the situation on the matter or another player acting under a newbie persona is a non matter. You have a player asking another to stop down voting another because they feel it is not warranted. After Chance clarified they asked them to post the thread as well

Also just because someone got downvoted just means that people DISAGREE with the point.
There's nothing wrong with that.
If people are ABUSING the rep system then they can be reported and the offending upvotes/downvotes removed too, btw.
edit: also complaining about rep being bad and then downvoting a person who didn't downvote the OP a single time is head scratching.

I mean, to be fair, I got downvoted for wanting a spell to be reworked so it doesn't have to get visual fixes and so it doesn't have to cost 1000 mana anymore with the reason being "just let the cute spell be cute". I personally don't care about the rep system that much, but if people start using it as a gauge for the person's actual reputation, then there's an issue.
I feel like it should be called something else but I can't think of anything that doesn't effectively mean the exact same without saying "reputation", nor do I know if the host site even permits changing its name.

I dislike Rep because it's merely a way of establishing a hierarchy based on who has the most points and stifles discussion in my opinion. When forums are growing weaker over time, I feel encouraging discussion on the forum more then on discord is better.
As such, I am for removing rep even if it is rather funny to see a post downvoted into oblivon.

rep is like a cosmetic for me
i dont look at a person's rep on their post. rather i look at them as a person and their previous deeds and make an opinion of them thru that (or on the opinion they are actively presenting if i dont know didly squat about that person)
i believe you all shud do the same (which i feel ppl do)

I feel people do, do this, but I think the rep system whether it's noticed by the user or not does effect how one speaks to other's on the forum and the validity of a users words to some extent to those viewing their post's.
