Equal Rage and Calm

As the water gives life, it also takes.
Do not let the storm claim thee—
Raging as the morning wake,
calm as the midnight sea.

Multiple lands have spotted a panther-like magical beast haunting the shorelines,
stalking humans to emerge in blistering fog and chilling frost.
Unusually benevolent for a mere beast with barely a sapient thought within the skull,
it only cares for a singular purpose, calling to humans with a booming voice.

"Do you cleanse the waters from whence all life emerged from?"

If you answer yes, you do, and pledge to its side,
you will be sworn protections, as an oath, like a brother-in-arms.
Cleansing the world’s waters is a perilous, dangerous task.
So all that help— human or not— must be strong, to fight for the tides’ favor.

If you answer no, you do not, and brush aside the thought,
you will be beset upon by the natural order of the ice-crested beast.
It is a thankless job, one sought to help all life through a misguided lens.
So all that stand still— human or not— must be strong, to fight against the ocean’s waves.

If you answer that you dirty and corrupt the waters,
you will most certainly face a deathly, repugnant rage.
For creatures far worse than the blackest human hearts emerge from muddied, unclean water.
Beings which do not need description, for they have none.

Though the being is both wild and civilized,
it is not due to thoughts of its own.
Equal parts rage and calm,
the oceans channel through its skull.

Do not fear the wrath of the seas,
that is, if you have offended it least—
else you will answer to a burning freeze,
staring down the maw of the Great Tide Beast.
