It all started with the dusk of the Second Age, and the dawn of the Third. The catastrophe of 124 where Eternia met the Netherworld, or so scholars debate.

From the second millennium onwards, the scarcely seen Primordial Misfortune emerged and urged magi to explore the Tower of Aetius. Like his epithet, misfortune followed. The influence of the Coven steadily grew until 2012AC. From the shadows, they were now a force amidst the three warring powers: Vdalion, Delphina and Aphros. Their champion a death magi, in hindsight, a sign of the wickedness to come. The irreversible happens and politics crumble with the arrival of demonkind in Abendrot, 2030AC.
In the decades following, magical growth appears unparalleled. Demons evolve and demigods ascend to rival them. Great kingdoms like Vdalion and Aphros fall, and Meranthe is in a constant state of turmoil. Even with the fall of Imperfect Demons, the taint of Moros is an obvious, putrid sight upon the Lands of Amier. To combat this, the oppressed people of Meranthe look upon the skies, to the outer worlds and the Pantheon that embody their best aspects. Nephilim are no longer so rare and the champions of the isolated Primordials manifest in unique ways.
The battle stagnates... then the last son of Mortyl, Misfortune's presence disappears -- his realm crumbles one eve. It's as if a curse lifts off of the lands. A perfect storm, where humanity, filled with champions gains an edge and capitalizes on the fortune granted to them.
...
The tremors across Dawnstone die with the conclusion of several noteworthy battles. The ritual "of the end" wrought by demigods Ustrea and Xarxes narrowly stopped by a trio from the Bastion. Other magi earn their own personal victories in the backdrop. Delphina and her allies, led by the Lumin King, secure Dawnstone from the maddened Void King's talons.
On the other side of the continent, Exarch Sabathiel and the Citadel purge the demonic hide. The dark corners of Meranthe expunged. Narrowly etched out wins, whether it be in defense from the Coven of Revelry's surprise, or assaults in the form of a twin attack upon the Shadowlands and the Dire Straits punctuate the end of this long, troubled era. Of course there are still rampant threats and the Descendants of Joseph Aetius' Council but things no longer look so bleak with Moros' followers forced back into the shadows.
When the roar of man quietens, and the gathered armies tally their dead, Mount Pavonis looms. It is illuminated, pronounced upon the horizon. As one nears closer, the forests at its base yield, crafting a path up to the structure above. The Tower of Aetius emanates a light, like a bonfire at night invites a weary traveler in. It beckons mankind in the aftermath of their victory, encouraging them to bask in such warmth.

(A common painting of Mount Pavonis found in Meranthe, the glow of it reminiscent of said artwork from millennia ago.)
Of course, with how close it is to the ruinous Gluttony's Maw and with Eden, the home of the Descendants nearby, there is a natural anxiety... a trepidation that goes unstated.

Perhaps this was in some way related to the prior collection of faith.
Whatever the case may be, a new century awaits.
One hundred years after 124 tore the lands asunder.
