The nine-tailed woman walks into a dark room. A flashing light flickering above that casts a brief shadow upon the walls. Ahead of her, an anomaly exists. It isn't flame, but it mimics one. A blooming, convulsing abstraction that exists in the air, it is as if tried to form itself into something more- but it can never achieve it.
Akin to a growing flame.
The flames... speak. No mouth, no center, just words...
"It's you," a voice that is too close and too far, swimming through the room, until... nothing...
The kitsune stands still. Her nine tails coil in slow, uncertain movements. Her eyes do not blink."Hello, ███," the kitsune says, the name fractures in her mouth. As if it is half-spoken, half-erased. It slips away like a rat, like it was never there.
The anomaly pulses, and with it comes a sound. Rhythmic. A soft swooshing, perfectly timed. Similar to clockwork- but organic.
It does not stop.
"Why don't you want to let me go?""What?"
A huge pause after the kitsune's question.
A silence, if not for the flickering light and the sound that comes from ███.
"I brought her back already," the anomaly responds.
Silence chokes the room again. The rhythm continues, indifferent.
"We used to talk before."
"I remember, yes."
…yet another uncomfortable moment of silence. Then the anomaly murmurs, words rippling through the room, like waves crashing across a house.
"So, you are ████."
The kitsune lifts her hand. A talisman is shown between her fingers. A yellow paper, with shengense symbols written over it. Proof. But proof of what?
"Who is ███?" the kitsune questions.
"You already know that," the anomaly replies, its edges darkening.
"What do you mean?" she asks.In response, dark flames seem to grow around the room, slowly encroaching towards the nine-tailed kitsune. She stays immobile, staring at the abnormality, as the fire slowly consumes her.
No answer. Not in words, at least. Now, dark flames begin to creep along the floor, hungering. They stretch towards her, casting shadows that don't really align with the light.
She does not move. Her tails remain still, as if nailed to the air.
"Your fire is not what it seems."
Thus- the flames touch her.
No scream, no struggle.
Clothes, body and skeleton alike all quickly turning into ashes,
falling onto the floor as the sound of the abnormality continues,
endlessly.
