Naysien
|
Appearance[edit]
Naysien is a behemoth among her kin, a massive ebon dragon with scales dark as the nights sky. Her gaze, underbelly, and flames contain a lilac hue. According to some she possesses the ability to take on a hume form, but none in recent time have bore witness to such.
Personality[edit]
Naysien contains all the hubris, ire, and greed one would expect from a dragon. But, each of her words and actions contain but a single motive: revenge. She has the tendency to be spiteful and petty when wronged, willing to drop any notion of honor should it mean vengeance will be attained. While she remains distant from her kin, she keeps a watchful eye on her children, a gaze that extends unto those of her sect. It isn't uncommon for her to speak through her Herald's, or guide those devoted to her whims, directly.
Worship[edit]
Those who worship Naysien are referred to as Ebonblooded. Most drakanites who walk the path beneath her wings find their scales bearing the same hue as her own. While many within the sect carry their own beliefs, all who revere her are taught the same tenets:
- Revenge is the path chosen by those who revere Naysien; for she is Naysien, the avenger, the dreaded daughter of Garjling, the dragon of shadow and blood.
- Sacrifice is necessary. Be it direct offerings to the dragons of this realm, the death of an enemy on the battlefield, or offering essence to Naysien's fallen children.
- Strength is to be respected, but choosing to place strength above merit is heresy. A powerful fool is still a fool. A strong coward is still a coward.
- Naysien and her children are the Ebonblooded's primary dragons of worship, and it's her teachings that the Ebonblooded adhere to. To respect another dragon is expected. To place another deities words above her own once accepting her, is heresy.
- To accept her words and later abandon the flocks is heresy. Traitors to the cloth are treated as any other heretic.
- Immortality through any means that isn't a dragon is heresy.
- Dragons are to be respected, dragon-slaying is of course, heresy.
- Defending yourself from a dragons wrath is reasonable, but picking an unnecessary fight with a dragon is heresy.
History[edit]
Naysien's presence once meant one thing and one thing alone: death.
During the height of her activity, a few began to refer to her as the avenger. Anytime she or her brood were wronged, carnage would soon follow. Some refused to believe in her existence, as survivors of her rampages were few and far between, leaving most of her legend shrouded in mystery and myth.
That is, until, a survivor sought her head.
They tracked the dragon back to it's nest after devoting many years of his life to striking her down. What ensued was a one-sided battle, leaving the great dragon little more than amused. But, it's that very amusement that coaxed out her first words with a mortal.
"What path brought you to me, gave you enough bravado to try and strike me down, mortal?"
He looked up to her and cried out, "I seek justice for all that you've slaughtered! My prayers will be answered, I'll strike you down, I swear it!" Naysien shook her head in disappointment, denying the notion that justice had any place in their battle.
"...Justice? The angels will tell you it's justice, attempting to normalize and give it rationale. I've no need to pretty my words to add allure to some dogma. What you seek is revenge, and it's up to you to attain it." What followed was a cold breath, as Naysien covered the man in her icy embrace. Within the chill he found himself growing numb, staring up to see massive wings that blocked out the skies.
What he experienced was not the fear of death, but fear that his desire for revenge would perish. Without another word she flew away, leaving him in field of lilac embers and ice, with black wings of his own. This was the first to call himself Ebonblooded, an avenger who survived an encounter with Naysien.
