The Broken Chapel
#1

There’d been a bit of commotion not too far beyond the city limits. Scaffolding formed a cast around the old, creaking wooden bones of the broken chapel, and trains of supply were brought in from the surrounding woodland and nearby quarry. Long months and nearly years had passed as workers were set to rebuilding the place.

Finally, the hustle and bustle had died down, and the steeple of the old building stood tall over the gravestones once more. The windows glowed with an interior light, where once it stood in darkness. And by word of mouth the rumor spread, a simple message to any that would take the time to listen.

All was hearsay until the proprietor finally sped the news along in written word.

Quote:"Let it be known that the Broken Chapel is broken no more. Any who wish to visit are welcome to find rest and warmth within its walls. Though the faith most commonly practiced here is the veneration of ancestral spirits, those of any faith may practice- Barring those that would disrupt another’s worship.

Any donations made will go to the less fortunate of Sudburry, and the upkeep of the Broken Chapel in the case of damages. Fighting within the chapel or upon the cemetery grounds is strictly prohibited."

The Chapel had never really gotten more lively. Lights remained on inside. The fires of torchlight and braziers continuously flickered throughout long nights and longer days, offering a place of warmth for any who lack shelter. Still, few come to visit.

Those that have visited, however, speak of the newest stone of the cemetery. One made from marble, and carved with genuine care. Before it always lies a fresh poppylus flower, and never once has the gift been seen withering away.

For those who take the time to stop and read, the inscription was a short one. One lacking a date of birth or date of death. It read:

Quote:
Actaeon.
Knight of the Order.
Flame Alchemist.
May he burn forever bright.

It was a quiet night.

There was only one man in the dark next to the grave of marble made with genuine care. Along with the poppylus flower that was laid down a while ago, three more are laid across it - and a small shrine was constructed, made of ivory bone to bear the tokens hung upon it.

One of the boar.
One of the shield.
And one of the flame.

The shrine blazes with azure flames, flickering with leftover Resonance that pulses with vibration of its environment in harmony. Three candles are left around it, all blazing with weak blue flames. An inscription is left upon the top of the shrine that is left behind, much like a part of oneself.

Quote:
The ones you share the bond with are those that make the journey worthwhile,
and the bonds that you make along the way are stronger than blood.
Cherish them, for they may not last.

Below the top inscription, as well as the location of tokens, the bottom inscription reads.

Quote:
We don't notice the moments shared together, until they become only memories.
But you'll be remembered always.
