Last Train Home

"So..."

"This is how it ends?"

Everything in the world, no matter how great or small, has an end.
I learned that a very long time ago...
Sometimes in a horrible memory.
Sometimes in a bittersweet memory.

That place was a great deal of heartache.
But great times too.
Even now, I'm still not sure if I lived the right kind of life.
Or if my actions were wrong all along.

I just hope it's not evil to fight for what you love,
and I loved my home.

But... my home isn't entirely gone. I know it.
All that I fought for turned out to be a failure.
Yet I still have a place to go to, and for that I'm thankful.

This time... for good.

Quote:"Good to see you, Commander Delisle! Booking another transport?"

"Save it. That title is no longer mine. And... yeah. I'm getting a train home."

"I know, I know. It's just you're a legend back there, you know? Doing all that?"

"--I guess so."

"So, what will it be? Going away for another three years or so? Do you want a train back to nearest Essharan station on 1873 AC?"

"No. Not this time."

"No?"

"One way ticket to Barsburg, please."

Feels kind of weird, still.

Realizing I'm not going back.

But at least I still have some pictures left,
a picture frame of friends,
or comrades long lost.

These times might be gone...

But I'll remember them forever.

On a certain train ride home, a nigh-mythical sight is beheld.

Flying in the sky is a machine, clad in all white after years of extensive work and modification. Almost unrecognizable to it's original inception. It hovers near a certain window to a certain commander, and does the unthinkable.

It salutes.

With the beat of wings made from pure levin, it departs. Yet, some passengers feel a presence leave something behind. A small echo, a parting gift for that pilot's father manifesting as whispers psionic.

Quote:"Love you, Dad.

I'll see you in a bit. I've still got some lessons to teach."

That machine, dubbed as the "White Doll", vanishes.

It's job finished, at least in the hands of it's original creator. Though, it would not return with the train.

It was never a Barsburgian invention, anyway.
