A Fool's Thesis
#1
Below lies an excerpt from an essay written by
an ambitious biologist of the seventeenth century.

An approved request for a research grant funding a
scholarly trip to the reaches of Apropriya was attached
at its date of writing.

...and so it is said such an affliction actually enables those of Apropriyan high society an eternal youth of sorts.
There have been countless attempts at truly coming to understand these people as a society.
A paper published by Hans Greiger in the mid fifteenth century does provide a great insight into how they function as a civilization, outdated as it may be,
but what of how they function at the molecular level? This 'Curse of Cain' may be something transformable, reproducible... alterable.

If one were to discover a way to mitigate the requirement for human blood, or perhaps thrive off of the blood of cattle,
would proper immortality not be something beneficial to the rest of mankind? Or, perhaps, at the risk of sounding idealistic,
a cure for the necessity of consuming any kind of blood whatsoever.

Free immortality, could it be possible?

It's a dangerous task, heading to a place like Apropriya to study her most chaotic and destructive of people.
I believe this pursuit will be worth it in the long run, though. Fail or succeed, it's important we know what is within the realm of capability.
In the realm of Apropriya dwells Humanity's only true, dedicated predator.
It must be overcome.

As the pages in this book go on, the dates of each entry become further and further apart.
Sometimes the words are sparse, or perhaps even illegible.
Stained by blood, or some other fluid spilt upon them which is unrecognizable.

The research team to Apropriya, upon our arrival, had been received rather warmly.
My assistant for the trip was one who had actually sought me out after reading my paper as it were published by a Britannian news outlet.
A nice young woman with bright blue hair called Lucinda.

She seems to know Apropriya rather well, fascinated by their culture and eager to come along as a guide of sorts.
At any rate, Lucinda was able to procure lodgings for us, in a small section of a castle built on a cliff. They call the city it is attached to 'Balaren,' apparently the smallest city of Apropriya,
though where I have found myself standing, it is quite grand to behold. Everyone here is considered quite wealthy by Apropriyan standards, apparently.
Lucinda says the night life is lovely.

From what I have come to understand, the owner of this particular section we've rented off is one Lady Invidia, a figure yet to make themselves apparent to me.
I'm willing to bet that she will be a prime subject to study.

There will be a party held soon in this place... just what types of parties can vampires even hold?
I hope they are not what one would conclude.

Future entries in this collection of documents are scrawled on much different qualities of paper.
Rough scraps, scrounged napkins, pieces of toiletry.

Whatever could be used to jot down notes was used, sometimes even the author's own blood, as evidenced by drippings.

This one was written on an elegant tissue, likely from a dining hall of some sort.

AS IT TURNED OUT

WE WERE TO BE THE MEAL AT THIS GRAND PARTY OUR GUIDE MENTIONED

LADY LUCINDA INVIDIA WAS HER TRUE NAME, AS IT WERE REVEALED SHE WAS THE HOST OF THIS BALL
CELEBRATED BY HER PEERS FOR BRINGING SUCH A BOUNTY OF HUMAN BLOOD

I WILL NEVER FORGET THE STRANGE SHIFT IN THE COLOR OF HER EYES

THE WAY THAT IT SHIMMERED AS IT WENT FROM A COLOR OF LILAC

TO THAT TERRIFYING SHADE OF SIENNA

MY ASSISTANTS ARE ALL DEAD

I HAVE ONLY BEEN SAVED BY MY NATURAL CAPACITY FOR MAGIC

THOUGH I AM CLOSE TO EXPIRING AS WELL

I WONDER IF I WILL EVER BE FREE OF THIS CAGE
