Development Direction #4
#1
Our main priority at the moment is wrestling with the internal performance issues, which we'll hopefully be able to discover more about and how to avoid upsetting now that there's profiling tools available that will be going into effect today. Frustrations aside, like last iterations of the development direction posts I'll give a tentative overview of what's planned going forward!

Past Development Direction Overviews: 3, 2

Chicken Coops & Cow Barns
Through the general crafting menu, chicken coops and cow barns will be craftable for a fee. These can be interacted with like other map objects (such as signs/tents) and can be built on any farmland type terrain. Chickens will produce eggs, and cows will produce milk!

Food & Farming
  • Each time you harvest an ingredient (even if it's milking a cow, collecting eggs, or fishing) there will be a chance that the item will be marked as a quality product. This'll grant a slight bonus if used in a food recipe, and yes, you can stack quality ingredients into one final dish! The higher your farming level, the better odds of quality produce.
  • Freshness! After a certain duration of a time (maybe a week?) an item will lose its freshness quality, which has the unfortunate consequence of negating the bonuses quality produce grants. If it's been especially long, it'll even begin to rot, though I'm not 100% decided on this yet - what do you think?
  • Food items will display when they were produced and by who like gear items do.
  • With milk of course comes new food types! We'll do a large expansion in this area.
  • Cooking EXP will no longer be on a five hour timer, and use an EXP system based on the item. If you cook with quality produce, you get bonuses.
  • Categories for food, hidden recipes! You'll start with the basics and levelling up a particular food item will unlock new ones, potentially. Rice balls into sushi rolls, for example.
Spells
  • We have a large order of spell sprites pending and a few dozen public ability additions planned! These will be added over time.
  • The ability for an admin to customize the flavor text and variables of a player's combat style.
  • A spell tree based around summoning!!!
Bee hives, fruit trees and bushes!
Sprucing up the wildlife with more diverse foliage once the sprites are ready to go. Harvest sweet honey and nature's bounty.

Swimming
Certain parts of the ocean will be made 'diveable' with deep waters that you can interact with, adding another layer of exploration. Make sure to collect the sea stones! Movement is debuffed in these areas unless you're a sirenian.

Three things:

1) Make Jerky immune to this.
2) Make alcohol become BETTER with age (up to a point)
3) Add a time spell that undoes the loss of freshness (probably 0 rp, but costs energy, like the Growth spell)

Can we make the deeper parts of the ocean swimmable by Sirenians? Possibly to get rarer items?

I'm kind of curious how you are planning to integrate this. I imagine some graphical compromises would be needed...

Maybe have like a limit to how many times a real life day a Siren can deep dive. To prevent people from crashing the market. It also might give more of a reason for people to play Sirens. Basing from the lore they do tend to like to collect things from the ocean like shells and coral.

I would make it the direct opposite, only strong water magi or sirens can deep dive unlimited times, thus giving them you know perks for being cool like that frankly.

With Sirenians being able to dive along with strong water magi I will never not play a sirenian . . .my love for them just exploded that much more lmao

I like the food change aside from freshness seeing as the main idea with food is for it to be ready in advance. The rest is good.

Fishing rework when.
Eternia beam struggles when.
