Starfall's Supposed Neutrality
#1
Pinned to the notice board outside Achyon and Starfall Academy lies a piece of paper, authored and signed by Sergeant Augustus Vorenii.

Quote:
On The Supposed Neutrality of Starfall Academy.

Each and every one of us know that the Starfall Academy claims to be a place of neutrality, a place for all young magi to receive scholarly education and develop their magical abilities under the mentorship of some of Esshar's finest minds.
We of the machine understand the importance of education, for are we not the most sophisticated civilisation known to this world? Have we not done more to advance progress in the fields of science than any other?

Then why are we shunned?

I, Augustus Vorenii, once attended this academy and I truly believe there are those within it's walls who wish for the institute to be such a place of neutral ground,  however, knowing how hard it is to be the only Cog in a class full of those unenlightened I have taken it upon myself to visit our children who have attended the academy, their only desire to learn and improve themselves, but my discovery was troubling to say the least..

Those who actively fight against us in wars walk freely on the campus, preaching zealotry and spreading falseifications about the Empire, indeed, I have spoken with many students of the Academy and the things these 'neutral parties' would have them believe would have the most dimwitted Ogre laughing in disbelief.

Children are actively being fed propaganda by those who tread upon neutral ground under the pretense of being pragmatic tutors, militarizing young and impressionable minds against us.

Are you aware that numerous times I have witnessed the previous Stellus, now Arch-Magi on campus grounds? Are you aware how many of the teachers are active combatants against us?

Today, a line has been crossed, a tournament for all students was to be held on this 'neutral ground' but at the last moment? The Academy decided to hold the tournament inside the settlement of Moxtli, an enemy of our people, and exclude our children due to their place of birth.

I, Sergeant Augustus Vorenii, am personally pained by this, for I'd hoped the Academy would have improved since my time there, where I was beset upon by the blind zealot Dallan - A teacher at the time -, where every day I would face discrimination and slander for my background, evidently, it has not.

Which is why I am proposing a direct challenge to the Academy, none within the walls of Achyon know more about the Imperial Ideals than Council-Woman Lucy, if the Academy is indeed a neutral ground than they should take no issue with our beloved Council-Woman speaking freely about our glorious empire at the academy, an open forum to dispel the foul rumors' that have been enabled to fester inside the environment of Osrona's making.

Council-Woman Lucy has agreed to speak at the Academy if this challenge is accepted, on the condition she is to be escorted by a unit of guards, the possibility for an ambush too great.

Until confirmation is given by Headmaster Ethric Athelier this discussion's date is yet to be determined.

An inked copy is politely taken, and affixed to the notice board.

Quote:Dear Sergeant Vorenii,

While I am baffled you have directed this missive unto me in third person, I am more than ameniable to speak with councilwoman Lucy and arrange a date for her to speak. Nonetheless, I heavily urge that any in Achyon so concerned with the future of the youth of Esshar submit a resume. I am always welcoming new individuals into positions. I do know that some individuals are eager to travel Esshar and see sights, but it is also the perogative of the staff to ensure no students are being placed in the way of undue harm. It would be a disservice.

I admit, however, to being at a tad of a loss as to what tournament this is, and would enjoy being informed of it, as I am unaware of anything save for the Tribelands' rite being lead by Shaman Balam Meztin. Would you kindly inform me of this event? I did not sponsor it, though I did attempt to view the culture of Esshar's beastkin personally; I was unable to do so due to outstanding events.

No minds from Achyon have oft opted to come and speak with me, nor walk the ground with comparative regularity, much to my dismay. Nonetheless, I have attempted to ensure their safety, as have other staff members in the event of issue. However, from the founding of the Academy, individuals previously responsible and directly at war have been present and ordinarily accounted for on staff; It is unfortunate that tragedy took most of such people from Achyon, and most have opted not to resume, as Barsburg doubtless has it's own privatized institutions that are being maintained off of Esshar.

It is, of course, then understandable that Barsburg has not opted to send individuals to proffer coursework, in such a situation, and an understandable one. Please inform any interested Achyonite mages of note that I would welcome their résumé and course plans to be submitted.

Councilwoman Lucy is welcome to walk the grounds freely and unaccosted, and I will corroborate with her if she is interested in hosting a class either on a temporary or long-term basis.

Thank you for your concerns.

A new letter is posted, lacking the politeness of the one posted by the Headmaster.

Quote:
 -Mister Athelier,

Please do not be personally upset, you are a hard man to track down, in the interest of brevity and to spread the word I took it upon myself to announce this publicly. The idea IS too clear up misconceptions about our people, after all, so the more that know the better.

It would seem my information on a tournament was misplaced, after conferring with a student it seems it was a Physical Education class taught by Mr. Haarper, regardless the point still stands, a neutral academy has barred students of a certain background from attending one of it's classes, the rest of the letter is accurate, I assure you.

I am sympathetic to your efforts to accompany our people within your institute, but I do not find them sufficient for reasons already stated. Time and time again children from your academy approach our soldiers and slander us for inaccurate falsehoods, accusing us of misdeeds we have not undertaken all the while not being able to state a single fact about our culture.

I've received word that Teagan Alankrantz has expressed interest in attending this event alongside her fiancée Rhesus, if permissible, I propose to you not a class of temporary or long-term basis, but a debate between the council-woman Lucy and the Arch-Magi Rhesus, allowing your students to learn about our Empire first hand from one of it's own, not one of it's enemies.

You may write to myself or council-woman Lucy to arrange a date if you so choose.

-Augustus Vorenii
