Star's Shelter

As the Shelter reaches the end of its fourth year and moves into its fifth, change has come to the quiet little corner of Osrona.
The first group of orphans is beginning to grow up and leave for their own homes and families.
A new generation has begun to occupy its halls.

To keep up with the influx of orphans as a result of the ongoing war, the Alder Family has hired Zhrani Gardios to act as a tutor and coordinator. Her work will be invaluable to the lives of the children who live in Star's Shelter in the years to come.

Osrona mourns.

And as it does, the Shelter's halls are filled with the sounds of children; of the unpacking of bags and the clearing of old rooms. It is not a welcome thing to see an orphanage filled so readily, but caring for the children of the war-dead has always been the Alder Family's duty. Ever since it first came to the city.

Though that is not all the sad news for the establishment to bear. With the death of Roland Hartz, Lucas and Chaska mark the second tally on a memorial, written out for those who had lived under their care and been cut down before their time. A friend, student, foster son, and member of the great big Shelter family, he will be missed and remembered by all the children who grew up with his presence in the home they shared.

Furthermore, due to their responsibilities Stellus Gardios and Lucas's son Marek are no longer aiding with the day-to-day running of the Orphanage.

The Alder Family is currently seeking kind-hearted magi to help tutor orphans and maintain the premises.

Use of the nearby farmland and room to live on-site can be considered perks of this position.

Star's Shelter
1844AC

A new day rises over Starfall Island.

While the meteoric and unanticipated revival of Asphodel has put the Osronan Magocracy on the offensive once again, Esshar's youth has its sights set upon the heights of glory. The Starfall Academy is enrolling a new generation of students to be taught with a new curriculum. Those who enroll now do so with the promise of incredible rewards, should they find themselves showing the skill to obtain them.

It is in light of these developments that Star's Shelter encourages all its wards to attend the Academy, where previously on-site tutoring was preferred. Children who were raised at the Orphanage are encouraged to continue to room there if they wish, as Academy dorms may be hard to come by.

However, tutoring is still offered! Though he has largely left the public eye, Lucas is available to guide students towards advanced techniques such as Barrier Magic and Holy Fire. There are also rumors that he is capable of spiritual cleansing through flame, though one wonders what such a thing might mean. Chaska, as always, is available to teach Cosmic Magic, Holy Magic, Medical Techniques, Alchemy, Artificing, and the advanced magics she has knowledge of, including Barrier Magic and the rare art of Holy Blessing.

It seems some may be taking advantage of this tutelage already, as Barrier Magic has found purchase in the most recent generation.

The Alder Family is also proud to support an up-and-coming student and a former Shelter resident, Hollee Gelmont. Hollee has volunteered to tutor children in Fire Magic, Holy Magic, or a combination of the two and may be sought at her establishment the Mana Pot. Lucas and Chaska would like to wish Hollee and Ael good luck with their business venture and great happiness in their future together.

Star's Shelter
1854AC

For twenty five years, Star's Shelter has been the home for Osrona's wayward youth.

Across its history numerous famous, and infamous, individuals have crossed its threshold to begin their lives. It has been the home to heroes of Osrona such as the martyr Roland Hartz and the Radiant Alice Brasti, soldiers in the Silver War; home to Hollee Gelmont, a knight and trusted teacher who earned her Holy Magic under the tutelage of Chaska herself.

In its early years it was nearly home to the former Stellus Zhrani Gardios, who almost became its caretaker before her destiny took her elsewhere. A desire to help the orphans of the world bloomed under harsh struggle into a desire to support all of Osrona, becoming the matron of its priesthood for many years.

It was the home to Ayer, Odele, Noa, and Diana, a group of rising stars that made reputations for themselves in Esshar even at a young age. It was home to the Vitek Brothers, Noh. A. and Strife, who grew beyond the pain of their loss under the watchful eye of Lucas and Chaska. The Bunny Hero Endurable is counted as an outstanding example of the Shelter's righteous spirit.

The roving Feline trader Flea briefly called the Orphanage home, as did Arden Sionnach, who was like a mother to this generation of Aesirs at the Vanirhallan Settlement. Her loss remains a wound upon the family's heart, but the love and light she brought to others made her a fitting member of the Alder family.

But the Alders were known for their love of all who needed them, not merely those whose interests aligned with their own. Many people who have found darker paths got their start in the hallowed halls of the Orphanage. The love they received was no less than that of those who became heroes.

Kali Agana, Knight of the Blood Court, began as an adopted child of the Alders. Consumed by her despair in her failure to slay the vampires of Asphodel, she joined with them, much to her foster parents' sadness. They take heart that she remains alive and healthy, though they pray for her return to their family one day.

Kael Vorso Jr. was left at the door of the Orphanage by his mother, Amara. The boy was the grandson of Lucas's childhood friend Amaruq, and he was raised as his own child until the synthetic soldier Johnny Valium made an impassioned plea to take him under his wing. Sensing the truth of the robotic man's love for this child, Lucas parted with him with some sorrow, but was content in the knowledge that the boy's childhood would bring meaning to the life of a being who felt himself bereft of all hope and emotion.

Perhaps there are others as well, those who do not wish to have their names known.

Yet in a celebration of its history, there is one name that will surely come to be known well. Toriel Alder, adopted daughter of Lucas and Chaska, was raised in the Orphanage in recent years. Now that she's grown, she has begun to take on the duties of caretaker. Soon enough the Orphanage will belong to her in full.

She has many years to grow into her role, but the Alders chose her because she shares their love for the youth of Esshar.

They have high hopes for her, and they hope that she will find the same success that they have.
