Campaign for Candidacy, by Erick Falstrik
#1
Following the announcement of Sudbury's former mayor and his early Sudbury-styled retirement, a fresh face joins the list of potential electoral candidates. Erick Falstrik, a former resident of Sudbury born and raised, and current member of the Order of the First Light, specifically under the notably infamous Blazing Lion Knights company. His candidacy is announced in official writing spread across the city, and through a small collection of men and women spread throughout Sudbury and Messaris, vocally announcing the contents of the writing for the illiterate few amongst the local populace.

Quote:Attention, to all the citizens of Sudbury, ranging from the unfortunate few who scrounge every day for their next daily meal, to the humble many whom lay day to day, just curious if they'll survive to the next, and even to the hidden faces whom hide behind the curtains, yours glittering eyes dreaming of the next big catch you'll use to line your pockets; I've come to announce my candidacy to become the next Mayor of Sudbury. My name is Erick Falstrik, and I'm sure many of you may have heard of my name, a name that to some may seem to be reliable, to others, a brief glimpse of reprieve among all the disorder and corruption you see. To even more of you, I am a name without a face, a mere nobody who merely wishes to try and grace his life with your presence, and to those of you I've unfortunately met in poor circumstances- I'm just one of those rotten knights who serves the noble households, a pitiful dog looking for scraps, while the world around me starves.

I ask of you all to take a moment to look at me as I am, a man born and raised in Sudbury, who understands its people, its problems, and has spent the majority of his life seeking the ranking and privilege to help the people of Sudbury from a place that can actually be more than just empty words. I know of the false promises you all suffer, of the hatred for the high-class that many of you hold, I understand Sudbury because I am one of you, and I am willing to cast aside my knighthood and the effort I've put in for the last decade for the sake of helping you all, the people in need.

Unlike the many other candidates I assume will be joining in on the election, my plans for helping Sudbury are quite simple, as despite how severe our problems are, the crime, the squalor, the corruption- each of these things can be taken one step at a time, to ensure that you all, the people of Sudbury, are able to live your lives, so that one day you can stand up and say, "I've lived a comfortable life, and I'm happy."

To outline my plan, it's very simple.

1. First, I plan to fix and restore the district's infrastructure in Sudbury. The houses which are in shambles, the streets that are falling apart, the puddles of sewage and muddy water that has pooled up in the city's pot holes. The crime rate, the industry, everything else- all of it takes a backseat to taking Sudbury piece by piece, and restoring it into livable conditions for its citizens. Even if that means I have to dig into my own pockets to do so.

2.Second, once Sudbury is even marginally better as a place to live. I plan to begin focusing on our local trade and industry, to see if we cannot begin to start pulling in some money to our humble district from Osrona herself, to better help the people- and to show up some of those arrogant nobles in the process.

3. Third, I plan to open discussion with members of the Faith and with the Osronian Imperial Academy, to see about finding a means to educating our children. I don't want them to live the lives we have, they deserve better, and improving their education is the first step to those better lives.

With these three steps, I plan to begin overhauling the state of Sudbury, one small change at a time, to hopefully begin making life easier for those within, so they aren't forced to resort to the desperate measures that I know we've all had to suffer at one time or another. To make these changes, I am willing to cast aside my rank within the Order of the First Light, and take on the responsibilities necessary to help improve Sudbury.

If you do not trust me, or you merely wish to ask the questions I have not yet answered, I beckon you to come see me. I can easily be reached at all times, whether it is in the glorious park of Osrona, the humble farmlands of the Messaris, or even just in roaming the streets of our fair kingdom, I am always willing to be in contact and answer your questions. Sudbury needs change, and a realistic change that isn't filled with empty promises and impossible tasks, I seek to bring that change.

Remember, my name is Erick Falstrik, and if you wish to seek a new Sudbury, a proper Sudbury, you can always vote for me.

Not long after the recent announcement of the faith's support, and an attempted denouncement from a fellow candidate. A new announcement arises through the form of official writing from Erick Falstrik, its contents are handed off on the streets across Osrona, and verbally announced once more within the districts of Sudbury and Messaris, for the illiterate few amongst the masses.

Quote:My dear people, I had hoped to avoid spending unneeded resources on another one of these announcements; yet here I am again, using writing to let you all know just what is going on.

For those of you who've gone and thrown your hat in with me, I honestly appreciate every bit of support given. Every single vote sent my way is another person who trusts me to do what is right for Sudbury, over the options given by my competitors. If what was once several dozen potential candidates, the whole force was whittled down to six individuals, and now with the recent outing of one of the forerunners, Miss Iris Arsali, as a member of the syndicate, we are now down to five.

As of late, as I'm sure most of you have heard, I have been blessed to receive the support of the Faith, with the clergy having deemed me to be an honest and righteous choice for Sudbury. With Sudbury as it is currently, it is desperately in need of a mayor who holds a sense of justice in his heart, and is willing to make connections with the people outside of the district. It is a fact that I oft remind myself, and one that it seems my competitors often forget, the Mayor's proposed reforms and solutions are proposed and approved amongst a council of fifty in Osrona's peerage. This peerage is filled with people from all walks of life, with a vast majority being nobility or of higher status- the same people that many of my other competitors intend to sever ties with whenever possible, to simply tie together all nobility up in a nice little bow and ignore them.

Very few of us from Sudbury like the nobility, they were born with a mythril spoon in their mouth, and instead of earning their chances like the hardworking people of the common districts, they are given them, however, I will say that the Nobility should not be shunned. You do not have to like them, you can even hate them if you so please, as long as we all understand that the nobility are still part of our society, and everything will ultimately be related to them at some point when it comes to maintaining a district. I am willing to negotiate with them, unlike my peers, and in many instances they actually support me as a result of my time in the order. The people of Sudbury need a mayor who is willing to negotiate with them, instead of pushing them away, to keep them at arm's length, instead of drawing them close. I can do this for you.

My focus is as it has always been, upon you all, the people of Sudbury. My stances have not changed in the slightest, and you, the people, are more than welcome to seek me out and ask me your own questions. Even as certain individuals, such as the blatantly racist Alythia Endore, choose to try and besmirch my name, claiming my ideals do not relate to you all, the people of Sudbury, our campaign continues onwards.

Remember, Sudbury can only truly recover when its people are united, you cannot separate the people as a result of race or upbringing, we all still wish to see a better Sudbury in the future, a United Subdury. Little heed should be payed to the words of a woman who ignores this fact, and only wishes to push her anti-Rhoynish agenda, an agenda that was only further reinforced by recent news.

My name is Erick Falstrik, and I seek to bring about a better Sudbury, a united Sudbury.

With the recent turning of the faith's favor in the mayoral campaign, a series of flyers have made their way onto the streets of Osrona, handed out by a great number of willing hands throughout the districts of Messaris, Caelfall, and Sudbury! The parchment is plain, holding no fanciful decorations or markings, it is a simplistic letter penned out for any and all to read.

Quote:My good people of Sudbury, as well as the people of Osrona at large, it is with great pride that I can say that it is thanks to you all that I have made it so far in my campaign. After years of hard work pushed forth by those of you willing to support me and my ideals, the race has been narrowed down to two remaining candidates, with one being yours truly, and the other, Lord Claude of House Pellaux, the great noble. From beginning to end, my stances have never changed, and even now, I see little to adjust, with few disagreeing with me on the future of our fair district, and the effects it will have on our great city.

Nevertheless, I would not be sending out these letterheads if it were not for new pressing issues I wished to address, for it is a frivolous notion to waste money on parchment and ink, when most disagreements or issues can be hashed out with me in person. It is with a heavy heart that I admit that the body of the faith, sans its leadership, has decided to revoke their sponsorship of my actions, and have instead chosen to support my mayoral competitor- likely in response to the noble's recent announcement and personal dealings with members of the faith.

The man wishes to turn the Cathedral of Osrona into a hospital, a cathedral which lies on the borders of the city, betwixt the districts of Sudbury, Caelfall, and even Aerandale to an extent. Whilst I could go on about how misappropriating Sudbury's funding towards renovating a church seems less than an apt choice for the district's finances, it is best that I mention the discussion that I held with the Stellus of the faith, and the details of how I planned to revitalize Sudbury.

Per my conversation with the Stellus, I held every intention of allotting a portion of property in Sudbury towards creating a local hospital and temple for the Faith to operate out of, however, it was decided to be unnecessary, as the Faith held their own plans to help the people of the district, and it is against their discipline to own property. So, it was decided that while I still offer my whole-hearted support to the Faith and their efforts, it would be best to support the local clinics and facilities however it was needed, to further promote the self-sufficiency of Sudbury as a whole.

The district has been in need of a form of reliable income for decades, especially with Messaris holding the lion's share of both trade and agriculture in the city; I propose that in accordance to an ex-candidate's plan for financial success, we expand Sudbury as a forerunner in the field of ironworks and in the field of collected rarities. As much as I enjoy the idea of a good game of Elementa, I cannot agree with my opponent directing valuable funding to build a stadium that may not see great financial success- though he is more than welcome to spend his own vast reserve to try and fund such an endeavor.

Aside from specific artisans speckled across Osrona, the city is always in need of well-wrought mithril or steel, whether it be to arm the men and women of the Order, or to be part of the newest vessel being made in the city's shipyard. Expanding the district into this field would ensure its place in the city and promise security for a great number of people in Sudbury- for while the sport of Elementa may ebb and flow, there will always be a need of wrought metals throughout Esshar as a whole.

As for the more adventurous of the district, I've decided upon a more interesting and lucrative endeavor- that of discovering and collecting oddities, rarities, antiquities and artifacts from across Esshar, for the sake of creating a unique market of sorts. This market of magical antiquities would serve as the first of its kind in Osrona, a place wherein these remarkably unique items can be auctioned off or sold to the people of Esshar, whilst benefiting the district with the funding it would provide. Such an endeavor would no doubt be dangerous, which is why those participating in each expedition would not be discriminated against- save for the most base of prerequisites, and all would be welcome to volunteer to seek their own portion of the riches hidden away across Esshar.

I welcome my opponent's interest in assisting the people of Sudbury, it is an endeavor befitting the oblige he holds himself to- but I wish for each man and woman of Sudbury to remember that at the end of the day, Claude is a noble born from a great household, raised with an arcanium spoon in his mouth. He has good intentions, but he sees Sudbury from an outsider's point of view, he was not born here, he was not raised in these streets, he has not suffered to seek a bite to eat each day.

I trust that when the day comes, I will be considered worthy of holding your, the citizens', trust.
