BFJ's DM Thread ( IGuess )
#1
Event Preferences: I prefer smaller personal events. Typically ones of high CoI, but am willing to do (very) low CoD events if I am inspired enough to run the event. I don't have any particular preference for event tonality, but if you want dark and spooky, I will make sure you leave with goosebumps. If you want happy and carefree, you'll be seeing rainbows and sunshine for a week.

Other Notes: I am typically a slow writer, but I counter that by planning out my events thoroughly. So if you are fine with a slow planning phase, then I guess I'm your man. If I feel as though I am not inspired enough to come up with an engaging setting and atmosphere, then I will not run your event.

Are you currently running events, and if so, are you considering player requested events?: I do requests only. See discord below.

Which Event: The Bloody Lair of Barsburg

Responsiveness (Were their narrations posted within a reasonable time-frame and were they quick to respond?): 10/10 The narrations were a bit slow, but this was given an advanced warning/notice so based on that it was pretty good considering their preferences!
Balance (How entertaining were the battles, and any obstacles/traps?): 9/10 The first battle was a bit unbalanced but that was immediately corrected as time went on to the following battles. He adjusted quickly with ease.
Storytelling (Did it feel like an adventure, did the content of the narrations meet your expectations?): 10/10 His ability to be descriptive and vivid in the settings of locations were on point. It was very clear what was going on and the surroundings we were in.
Fairness (Were the punishments justified and earned, was the risk to reward ratio good?) 10/10 It was extremely fair, besides the unlucky rolling that occurred, everything else was on point.

Overall: BFJ is a great DM from what I've seen, there wasn't nothing that was noticeable that I saw that gave me a different impression. If you like DMs that take their time and cover the bases then I'd recommend him.

Any other comments: No other comments. Keep up the good work BFJ

Which Event: Race you to the rock

Responsiveness (Were their narrations posted within a reasonable time-frame and were they quick to respond?): 10/10 Narration were a bit slow, but were specified beforehand. In the end it was worth for the very interesting story. 10/10
Balance (How entertaining were the battles, and any obstacles/traps?): The first phase was honestly pretty scary. Five Ec's of each element using a different element. The short range of tab switching was probably the downfall out of all of us, especially with a specific plasma EC destroying our healers hp in 10 seconds xD. After that every other fight was amazing 8/10
Storytelling (Did it feel like an adventure, did the content of the narrations meet your expectations?): The storytelling was just soo good and I'm glad my first event was with BFJ 10/10
Fairness (Were the punishments justified and earned, was the risk to reward ratio good?) I feel the fairness was completely okay. It was a Low CoD after all, so it was expected for a few perms to come out. Maybe see if the player has a preference with the type of injury. Other than that, still fair for the types of rewards.

Overall: I'm thankful for having BFJ as my first DM for my own event. Story was fun, event was long but worth it, and we all had to sweat to not get destroyed by those gravity orbs like poor Spencer. Overall I give BFJ a 9/10
Any other comments: BFJ... What was that last boss sprite... that thing was terrifying..

Which Event: Call of the Grand Blue

Responsiveness: The narrations were a tad slow, but it was worth the wait in the end. They were detailed and really painted a good picture of our surroundings and the situation we were in. 9/10
Balance: The first fight was pretty well balanced. The second one was a little too easy, whereas the third one felt awesome, was genuinely a great experience. 8/10
Storytelling: There were times when I was genuinely surprised pleasantly by the direction the story went in, and it offered my character an awesome tale to tell. 9/10
Fairness: I feel it was completely fair for the rewards and injuries given. 10/10

Overall: Would love to have BFJ do another event, this one was awesome and genuinely one of my favorite things I have particpated in on Eternia. 9/10 total score.

Which Event: Call of the Grand Blue

Responsiveness: The narrations were worth the wait! Literally well detailed and lovely to read man! 10/10
Balance: Balanced First Fight, 2nd one needed to be a bit stronger BUT loved the mechanic of it. Oh man I loved that one. Third one was on the ropes... had me in my chair shaking! Loved it. 10/10
Storytelling: The detail of it. The Scenes and what happened as well as how it proceeded. But, the best and most important thing to me was no matter what we did. It made a difference. It affected something. It felt like we were in control of our own story. That, is what roleplay is. Freedom. Just like the Ocean. 10/10
Fairness: Was beyond fair! Loved everything given. The only sadness....

Overall: Outstanding and a good DM, If I ever get into DMing you were a good inspiration of storywriting. Truly! 10/10

Event: I don't know lmao

Responsiveness: Things were slow, but I know you take your time in general to ensure you're providing quality writing. 7/10

Balance: Solid, I joined late so I don't know how the earlier fights went but the last two were edge-of-your-seat intense. 10/10

Storytelling: Again, I joined late so I can't speak to the entire event but what I saw was great. Good attention to detail, it makes the long post time worthwhile. 9/10

Fairness: I got some cool shit. 10/10

Overall: good DM. Recommended for people who don't mind spending a good amount of time on an event. 9/10

Event: No clue, was invited last minute.

Responsiveness: A lot of the narrations early on were pretyped, which definitely helped speed things along. Later on things slowed down (and in all the event ran long at a little over 8 hours), but the quality was enough to merit it.

Balance: Fights were engaging and fun; quite a few were especially difficult to get at as an armed user, but openings were made frequently enough and sequences which made the boss inaccessible were predictably avoidable—good faux-mechanics.

Storytelling: Thematically coherent, including temps/perms/items that tied into the flavoring of the event. Some of the items (like the book) seem to have had a lot of thought put into them.

Fairness: The risk table was presented at the beginning of the event and was suitable for a chance of death event!

Overall: I had a good time, I'd happily go on another event with this DM at the helm.

Event: The EC for Ad Contra Deos in the public event, "Upon Their Throne"
I think the breezestep moving and the funny visuals (ESPECIALLY the 20 second ribcage start) were all really really funny. The EC table was GRUESOME but the EC itself wasn't so bad. Especially for a big fuckoff group fight EC. Only felt like I ate big damage due to unfortunate positioning/timing/decisions on my part.

It was a very fun time, at no point did it feel easy but it also wasn't the most oppressive hell either, the ribcages were evil but considering most of the damage was relatively easily avoided I found it funny.

Stand proud, you've now permed Kalvorn twice.

All jokes aside the whole thing was a blast to do and I like the perm a lot.
