Duel City
#1
An airship flies overhead of many cities around Meranthe, bearing the crest of the highly esteemed, and wealthy Princeton family. From it, an artificially boosted voice rings out in a thick, Valmasian accent.
It's borderline impossible not to notice with how loud, and excessive it is!

Quote:
Great, and grand people of Meranthe, hear me! For too long has honour, and sportsmanship been set aside in this land, and savagery ruled surpreme! Sticks, and stones wielded by beings able to shatter mountains, and dry out oceans! And yet, what if I told you there was a greater power than that? A power that pre-dates even the ancients of this world, ingrained into the very frabric of our reality-- and beyond?

That's right, there could be no other form of combat so noble! No discipline more tactical! No battlefield more advanced! I speak of course of the Game of Kings!

Arcana!

My name is Magnus Maximus Princeton, and I hail from a long line of Arcana masters! Today I honour my linage by announcing the greatest Arcana tournament Meranthe has ever known! Come pro, come beginner, come all, for there's room enough in the hall of fame for any soul daring enough to engage in our sacred sport! And yet, there can only be one, final winner.

Only ONE Monarch of Games!

In joint cooperation with the current Slime of Games, this tournament will have two phases:

In phase one, you will engage each other in honourable duels for the Proof of Dueling! Every duelist that signs up will recieve TWO of these, and their only goal is the aquire a third to prove themselves eligible for phase two! The winner of the duel will claim a SINGULAR Proof from their defeated foe, and move on!

Even should you lose, and have only one Proof left, fear not. The soul of your deck is always with those that rise to the occasion! You need only regain your Proof through more duelling!

However, should you find yourself with no Proofs left... You'll have forfeit your right for the title, this time. Sorry!

Those with three proofs will move on to a ladder-style single elemination-type tournament held at a later date! Here, duelists will compete for the chance to win several of my family's artifacts! As well as for the change to challenge the Slime of Games herself for the title of Monarch!

And now, a word from the Monarch herself!

Quote:[Image: nwIHv07.png]
"Wa-hah-hah-hah-ha! Do you really think you can defeat this one? This one was undefeated in the last tournament a hundred years ago! And no matter what scrawney, fourth-rate decks you third-rate two-legs create, you'll never defeat the Slime of Games! But if you think you can, then come! Amuse your Queen."

Can you do it?

Will you?

Tournament-unique rules:
- A hand may at most consist of 7 cards.
- Any additional cards that would be added to the hand after 7 will be immediately voided-- they are unplayable this game.
- A player that cannot play any of the 7 cards in their hand legally, and draws a card, loses the duel.
- Outside of these, I'm exerting my free right to steal borrow Rob's rules as written HERE.

- Each duelist starts with 2 Proof of Dueling
- A duelist may only be challenged for a Proof by another duelist with a Proof.
- Proofs may only be earned through Arcana duels!
- Only one Proof is traded per duel.
- When you have 3 Proof of Dueling, you're eligible to participate in phase two.
- If you have 0 Proofs, you're eliminated from phase 1
- Cheaters, and scoundrels will have their favourite cards thrown into the ocean.

For easy recognition of a duelist, please write 'Arcana duelist' in your short-description! You don't need to, but you'll get more games that way!

Hex-games:
A mechanic introduced for the more sinister duelists out there!

- Upon two duelists accepting to duel, one party may declare it a [Hex Game], which prevents other parties from interfering with the duel through magical means.
- This declaration MUST be overly dramatic, and obvious. Potentially even goofy.
- A [Hex Game]'s loss-penalty becomes the following: The loser loses 1x Proof of Dueling, as well as suffers a loss of an Aggressive PvP-battle through /surrender.
- If both players agree, and only if BOTH agree, may they raise the stakes to a Danger. This MUST be agreed upon prior to starting the duel.
- Players, win or lose, must be allowed to leave the area freely. (For the sake of playing more card games later!) Unless they choose to stay for whatever reason, in which case the consequences of their actions may be enacted on per the game's rules!

Hex-games are designed for those that want to take on a more villainous role during the tournament, or those that just want to spice it up a bit.
Remember, it's funny card games! Don't take it too seriously.

Phase 1 officially begins:
March 22nd.

And will last until:
April 4th.

The phase 2 tournament will be held:
April 4th,
5 PM EST

Duel City is now officially underway!
I'll get your Proofs to you as soon as I can!

Feel free to DM Spiffspoff, or ping me in the Arcana-channel if you need your proofs if I haven't gotten to you!

Anyone can STILL sign up if they want, through the form in the previous post, so don't be shy!
I'll be accepting sign-ups until the day before the tournament!

Additionally, to make it easier to see who wants to duel, I encourage people to write a post in this tread with their partaking character's name, and where they can generally be found at to make engaging in children's card games easier!

Example:

With the fast approach of the tournament date, duelists are encouraged to get their Proofs, and send in evidence of their efforts! Only by having three can one be admitted to the grand tournament!

(Please send a picture of your character with three proofs to Spiffspoff on Discord so I can add you to the roster!)
