"How long have we relied on others? Been sittin' on these stagnant waters, hopin' change will come to us?

Fortune was always made fer' independence.

It's about time we brought that back."

- Ala Emeraldi, Sovereign of Fortune
As always, sailors whisper sea-borne secrets into the ears of those who would listen to salt-tongued tales told through mouth, weaved across waves from the deep blues. Murmurs once more brought to attention, especially to states allied with the republic, that there was intent on becoming a completely free Kingdom once again. Something which felt as though it had been choked, slowly killing off whatever excitement surrounding the nation before leaving them destitute of those who would be willing to step forward amongst their ranks. The Extinction's damage to their ranks had been in disrepair until recently, thanks to a few new arrivals amongst the islands.

Decades of silence were all that came, frustrated for the lack of development which seemed prominent amongst the islands once. What often drove settlements to greatness and prosperity seemed lacking at first glance. After having survived for so long, was their fate to rest their laurels into obscurity and let their people die out?

No. Even as long as they had survived, there was still the choice of change.

With return to violent ways from the remaining settlements, unrest shouldered itself upon Fortune's Navy, the decision having to be made whether they would be willing to step forward and assist the republic's people in defending themselves. But before Navy ships could depart from ports and move towards Gloomlight to their intended destination to back up their soldiers, a solitary hand was risen. Sails folded, and no ships left the docks which now rest upon Fortune's isles or even Sapphire Bay alongside another statement from the Sovereign.

Quote:
"Mainland's issues never were ours.

Gloomlight's every bit as corrupted as the lands they claim to hate so much. A shame, considerin' how many good people live there,

...But even good people don't always make the best decision. To further that, we've been festerin' in the shell of the Republic for too long.

Goldlight, the contract ye' made with my Great-Grandparents so long ago, claimin' we can separate any time we want? Thanks for yer' protection over the years, but it's time we raise our own sails again. Not a personal decision nor grudge against ya', but for our own growth, we need to step out of some shadows."
"May the Golden Winds guide us all."
Fortune has left the Republic of Paritas.

The message soon finds it's way to the offices of Martyr's Vigil.

There is a long delay, before any official statement is given - the Captain-General having been often away to the southern islands over the past half-year for familial reasons.

When it comes, the reply is simple.

Quote:So be it.

From this point forwards, the Kingdom of Fortune is an independent entity in full. The success or failure, rise or ruin, and rewards or consequences for the maritime nation's actions and circumstances are their own.

May the winds fill your sails
The Goldlight Order assents to the removal of protectorate status of the Kingdom of Fortune, recognizing it as a fully independent state
