Once upon a time, in the age after the death of the King of Beasts, there was a country. And in that country, there was a den of deep shadows. And in that den of deep shadows lie children.
These were not the children of just any animal, nor the children of any man. They were the offspring of a Beast. So many of them lie still and devoid of life, buried there in the dark - a curse, a poison, spread over the land like a sickness and stifled their lives before they could even be tasted.
Yet a few still thrived, defying that which sought to snuff their lives before they began.
Tended in the dark, their guardian slumbered around them where Dream and Nightmare blurred. When they first stirred and opened their eyes they saw her:

What am I?
You are a Cambion. Not just any Cambion, as if that were not strange enough. You were not born - you were hatched.
You know no father. There is only the blood of your mother, an Ascendant Demon of Atrellyan lineage, Felice Halbmond.
Your shape, your form and mutations, will no doubt be influenced by her. But the nature of what you are is that of change and adaptation. It’s likely that you are no exception.
Given that Atrellyan Demons are so deeply tied to nightmares, it is entirely possible your appearance is even influenced by this; this could be the nightmares of men at large, the people of Meranthe, or even of your mother [suggestions to this end are available on request].
