Chapter 1
Once upon a time, when the land was young. There roamed a Knight who had no kingdom to call his own- for where he was from was lost to time. Faded in the wars he had fought in, all he had ever known was gone. Yet he wandered and wandered further across the open lands with nothing more than his cloak and armor... countless years he would set out for a meal within the forest. Countless days he would sit by the fire and watch the flames flicker and flutter into the night sky. As the ash touched against his skin it often left the taste of the last remains of his home.
One that was taken from him.
The knight was not known through the land for much but for his temper and hate for those who had wronged him. Old masters treated him like a dog on a leash, a man who had no true freedom and would only live his days to follow the commands of those who harbored his wrath. The past was always something that haunted
And sleep he would find, but haunted by nightmares would bring no peace.
Until one night, when he had gone to rest, a wolf with a black cloak of fur and red eyes of embers stared from the forest, not far from his fire—where the shadows would only show what the wolf desired to the lone Knight. A voice like ice crawled its way into the knight's mind as the Wolf smiled far too wide in the shadows.
Only the orange light of the fire flickered to show the teeth that were too long, with eyes too red. Dripping with drool, she stalked her next meal, ready to pounce upon the Knight who had nothing to his name but the sword at his hip and the armor upon his body. They would stare at one another - neither making a move to attack the other. With a soft voice like ice, the wolf spoke.
"Are you lost?" Asked the wolf.
"I am." Said the Knight. Barely looking from the fire- those wordless eyes watching the flame eating the wood.
"Aren't you scared I am going to eat you? Are you a fool? You are in my forest." The wolf said as she licked at her maw.
"No, you are as lost as I am." Rasped the Knight as he stared toward the wolf, throwing a piece of his dinner.
The dinner was quickly devoured without question, yet the Knight didn't move from his place among the fire- but he did not fear the Wolf either. This confused the Wolf as no one ever dared to try and appease her, let alone feed her out of their own free will. For hours neither of them said anything, just out of view the Wolf would not come closer.
And the Knight would remain to feed the fire of his camp. Hours turned into days, and those days turned into weeks their game of hide and seek. Of who would give up their ground first was never-ending, until the Wolf and the Knight now both watched the fire. Wordlessly sitting next to one another, the Wolf had hunted for their meals, and the Knight would cook them a feast.
Working as one.
"How strange you are." The Wolf claimed to the Knight. "That you do not fear me, but you talk to me. You are a fool."
"Yes. I am." Said the Knight. "But, you are lonely. Like me."
Once more, they fell into silence. Watching the fire.
Until all but the stars and the moon watched them rest at night, not fear of anyone or anything, but their story of understanding had begun.
Lonely Creatures so often forget how kind and gentle another can be.

A fool, A huntress, both under the night sky.
Lonely together.
