In an age long past, the Goblins were a race of diminutive Humanoids that were known for their quirky if not, mischievous personalities. They mysteriously vanished from the surface of Esshar hundreds of years ago. Believed to be extinct, it comes as a shock that creatures like the goblins have been reported appearing in the caverns and sewers around Osrona once more causing mischief and small pockets of mayhem.
It has been centuries since the Goblins inhabited the surface world, having gone underground in hiding several hundred years ago after a plague had nearly wiped out their entire race, they have become adjusted to living within the caverns. While some of their physical characteristics have changed, they had only exaggerated what features Goblins had previously.
Appearance
Quote:The Goblin race are physically tiny race. The average range of Goblin height is anywhere between 3'3" to 4'4". Though there is some outliers that may be slightly taller. Goblins are no taller than most human children. As well, the Goblins have sharp, long teeth. Their teeth often break and regrow. Causing their mouths to often have a jagged display of uneven teeth. Goblins have hands that are proportionally larger than most others races hands are. They also have large, pointy ears that help them hear through dark caverns. And eyes that reflect light like cats' eyes. Goblin skin tones range from mossy greens, dirt browns and even stone-like grays.
Behavioral Traits
Quote:Almost all Goblins have a mischievous side to them. They enjoy playing tricks. Are fans of being jokers as well. Goblins are almost always neurotic, they often have the emotional maturity of humans still in their teen years. Though despite this some Goblins can be extremely cunning. It is not uncommon for Goblins to also be greedy, obsessing over something they find interesting and trying to amass as much of whatever it is. Goblins are neither naturally malevolent or benevolent. And most often time view their pranks in good fun and only that. However some Goblins can be extremely sadistic, just the same there are goblins who when taking a gamble will honor their losses. Goblins are also known to enjoy creating things and being tinkerers. Goblins tend to dislike bright things and avoid being outside too much when it's sunny.
Culture
Quote:Goblins tend to run in clans. Though many goblins venture to commit to their own solitary shenanigans, almost all Goblins belong to a clan. It would be foolish not to be. As even in the underground caves that they are used to, there exists various creatures who would wish them harm as they hunt for food. Including other Goblins. A clan is like a large family, who work to better the entirety of the clan. In most cases a clan has a Chief, but they do not always have one. All Goblins born to a clan possess the surname of their clan. And all adult Goblins of a clan are parent figures to the children. Every Goblin is named in very peculiar ways. They often possess names that are reference to sounds that their parents enjoy or have some sort of memory relating to (Knock, Bark, Growler, etc) Or have names that are a combination of their birth parents favorite color and their favorite object. Or an adjective and their favorite object. (Bluespoon, Sharpknife, etc) As goblins become mature they can decide to leave their clan and join or create another. However should they do so, they abandon the clan name.
Goblins are vaguely religious. However their religion is nearly incoherent to others including themselves. They seem to worship 'The Big Cap'. And in their honor, will collect various objects of value and bury them around mushrooms. This is supposed to bring good luck. And allow whatever they bury to grant good luck to themselves and their clan. As well as produce more food for themselves and their clan. Some clans have more complicated beliefs. But the general census is that The Big Cap requires regular material sacrifice. And that The Big Caps speaks in the Mushrooms.
Abilities and Magical Traits
Quote:Goblins are children of the Earth. While the origins are truly unknown, even to them, the Goblins are naturally attuned to the Earth Element. Their large hands, feet and ears allow them to more easily sense vibrations within the stone. It is not uncommon to see Goblins with footwear that partially exposes their feet to the ground. They feel uncomfortable with their feet entirely enclosed.
Goblins adapted to living in caverns, sewers, and other dark places. Because of this, Goblin's reflective eyes allows them to intake more light than any other known sentient creature. Even in the darkest of caves, they seem able to navigate with ease. Both due to their ability to hear the faint vibrations as well as see better than most in the dark.
The most unique adaptation Goblins have is their ability to consume stones. Yes, even crystals and metal ores are able to be consumed by Goblins. The unique semi-magical digestive system of Goblins allows them to take almost any crystalline or metallic structure and break it down, reducing it into the base nutrients that are found with them. They are also able to take the access nutrients and enhance their abilities through it. For example, a large consumption of blue mercury will allow their bodies to move quicker. Goblins can survive entirely on a diet of crystals and metals. And often harass others to steal their metallic objects to turn into food. some Goblins actually dislike consuming anything that is not stone-based.
Oddly enough, Goblins love to build things as much as they like to tear them apart. Due to their close nature to ores and crystals, they make surprisingly good crafters. Being able to expertly manipulate crystals and ores as if they were apart of their own body!
Suggested Mechanical Abilities
Quote:Dirtmouth
As a child of the Earth, Goblins can eat crystals and ores! This gives them temp Meal buffs. The buff and what stat it effects depends on what they eat. If they eat food after the buff is removed. The buff is also effected by the same nerf as food is, if eaten too rapidly in succession. The buff lasts for 1 hour per each crystal/ore eaten. They only get 200 energy per meal.
ELEMENTAL CRYSTALS: +5 elemental defense of that type.(Active, they have to drop the object in front of them and use the skill to eat ores and crystals.)
ORE: Copper(Tiny agi) Iron(tiny Vit) Steel(Vit) Adamantite(Vit,MCap) Mythril(Vit/ High Agi), Orichalcum(Power, Vit) Blue Mercury(Agi, Power) Nyeshk(Power, High Vit, MCap) Arcanium(High all Stats. Fully restores energy, a single ore lasts 72 hours.)
Crafting Obsession
Goblins are proficient crafters. Anything they craft costs 25% less energy. The chances of getting better quality armor and weapons when made by a goblin, doubles.(Passive)
Darkvision
Goblins have adapted to living in the dark. When entering caves, they do not need need sources of light to see where they are going. They do not get that 'Black out' effect when in caves that other races get.(Passive)
Tiny Physique
Goblins are very tiny. And have adapted to using their small frame to become dodgy little annoyances for those who try to fight or catch them. They get a debuff to DR of 10%, But in return, get Spelldodge equal to their crit-rate.(Toggle buff/Stance?)
Oh they should also get racial reduction to Earth Attunement. You know, like Draks get to Fire.
