The Matriarch
Victoria Devoy
"From a mountain of broken promises we found ourselves divided, our honour stolen, yet in our hearts we know the way home."
The history of house Devoy
Among the foothills of mount Grimhjall a hardy people carved themselves a small home, into the rocks did they loose their picks, large sections made into abodes and liveable spaces. For a few decades these small lords enjoyed relative peace, not influential enough to draw the attention of the stronger magi of Meranthe. The land was not prosperous and farming was hard work given the terrain, as the small lords grew their holding they found themselves at a crossroads; to fruitlessly work the land, toiling away for meagre scraps or they could strike at the mountain and possibly uncover riches beyond their imagination.
-
The legends of mount Grimhjall gave both caution but also the promise of exceptional wealth, artifacts long lost since the fall of Vdalion and the treasures scattered by ragnarok were for the taking. Natural treasures were also abundant within the mountain, large deposits of iron and copper with a swathe of adamantium veins that could see the small holding transformed into a prosperous nation. With the hearts of man set upon greed, once more did the people of this budding settlement raise their picks and drive them into the earth.
For a time their efforts bore fruit as caches of Vdalion treasures were unearthed and large veins of ore discovered, it was the age of prosperity and unfortunately calamity; before the budding nation could even declare their findings, disaster found them.
-
Mount Grimhjall is a treacherous place and these hardy people had dug too deep, a horde of demons unleashed over night ravaged the entire settlement, almost all perished in the first wave and only the swiftest to act made it out of the ensuing riot of man on demon; swords and axes clashed with demonic flesh, but none can stand against the tide of the Fel forever.
This leads us to house Devoy and their destruction, scattered to the winds as if naught but feathers, those who survived lost to each other.
A singular figure has risen from the ashes of their homeland, Victoria of house Devoy seeks to rebuild what was lost and gather those of her wayward house.
The founding principles of house Devoy
Honour - To those of house Devoy honour is paramount and once lost exceedingly hard to regain, acting with respect and courtesy to those around is not only valued but required. Even when met with hostility in tongue or sword, those of Devoy must act properly, a dog barks but a noble disarms with their words.
-
Discipline - Those who cannot yield results are not worth acknowledging, those that lay idle instead of advancing themselves in some way are frowned upon within the lesser noble house of Devoy. If you have the energy to complain about life, you have the energy to improve your standing in it.
-
Cunning - If you can win without lifting your weapon then you have earned it, while others might never know the deeds done behind the veil of secrecy house Devoy will. Success is measured by how best you benefit the house of Devoy, results are worth more than the bleating of the inept.
-
Mercantilism - It is not only accepted to travel the path of commerce but encouraged, those who can build themselves up and earn for the house of Devoy are favoured and will find themselves quickly holding seats within the upper echelons; operating businesses and other establishments can only help make Devoy prosper.
-
Quote:Victoria Devoy - "To regain what we have lost, we must strike forwards with reckless abandon."
There is more to come regarding house Devoy, but for now this will do.
An emporium will be opening up in a few days for various positions within the family, and the house itself, those within the house will be as follows;
-
Retainers - Guard Captain - Guards - Servants
-
The position of Guard Captain and Guards will be a paid one, in the beginning it will be a small stipend of 1,000 coins every IC year and a little higher for the Captain. Retainers are the highest position of these four and will have authority over those below them, Servants will be the lowest and are generally expected to work tirelessly to aid the rest of those in the family for a chance of gaining higher status through distinguishing actions and loyalty.
