The Old Aspera

The newly-appointed Pontifice, Falke Bargiel, has a message for Gloomlight's inhabitants.

"For as long as I've lived, I've watched the faith's toiling in irrelevance. Where once this city was built on His word, it has fallen into a mere quirk otherwise surrounded by stagnancy."

"I think this has gone on long enough."

"We will be returning to tradition. Every citizen will learn the Doctrine, every Knight, every Squire, every man, woman, and child. It is no longer a matter of convenient belief, it is a matter of adherence to the very reason this city exists, and with my new place in the church, I will not see it forgotten for as many years as this feeble body grants me.

Proteus is a wise man, one I believe many respect. For the Gloomlight of now, though, he is not what we need.

I do not shun Gala, nor Enarr, nor any of the Pantheon—for to do that would be the idiotic defiance of the very thing He teaches us.

If your faith is to another God, so be it. You are welcome in His city, for as long as your mind remains open.

However,

In this time, what Gloomlight needs is to remember what it is. What it used to be.

My birthplace, Aphros. The Twilight City.

Built upon the work of Proteus, and the failures of unnamed zealots centuries past, it is my vow that I will see the Ordinance restored in a way unclouded and pure.

From here and on, the church will be wholly dedicated to the Athelite faith.

Any are welcome within my halls, as fellow faithful or friends alike.

But they should not seek to find a statue of aught but the Lord Warden.

In the coming years, I will be hosting a sermon. In due time, I will send out flyers with more information. For now, a simple statement:

Aphrosi attendance will be mandatory,

And any who are not inducted under a faith already will be proselytized in the Lord Warden's name.

May we share in His wisdom,

and welcome the return of the Old Aspera."
