無機質な廊下

突き当たりの部屋に
忘らるる子供達

i remember when we would play in that gilded glass cage
even though the forest wasn't real
the days we spent there were

but when did i stop remembering?
why can't i remember the last time you stood by my side?

every time we tried to play kakurenbo, you refused
whenever i asked why, you said you didn't like not knowing where i was

i saw you practicing your swordsmanship
with awe, i had told you:
'your strength is admirable, i wish to be like you.'

i remember the look you had on your face.
i couldn't tell if it was fear or rage.

you told me,
'the sword isn't fit for you.'

i remember our time in that gilded cage,
how awful it was -- your plan hatched for us to escape,
to take us away.

we were there...

i wonder if you remember as clear as i do
that day we had escaped momentarily our gilded, glass cage;
you managed to convince me, just for a night of fun -

"This could be our only chance to attend this festival, you know!"

you said with such confidence, and i couldn't say no
our kimono handpicked, you helped me over the fence -

and before i knew it, our hands were full - held by eachother,
and a paper lantern tightly grasped in the other.

i couldn't contain my laughter as you placed the oni mask.
how fondly i remember catching goldfish with paper net,
only to set them back out, for we knew we'd get in trouble

that night is so vividly ingrained in my memory
you pulled me along to see the fireworks as the lanterns lit up the sky
and i made my wish to always be with you,

even if we would remain in our gilded cage
as your smile
imprints in my memory...
