Application Stagnation
#1
Something has come to my attention, and I feel it is in need of a change. Out of everything in Eternia, I enjoy making things. Whether it's a faith, a faction, an item or a wonder. I like to see things come from nothing, and be able to enjoy the fruits of my labors. Unfortunately, I've not had that satisfaction in a little while. I have been struggling with motivation to play Meranthe because of this particular issue. I’ve found that the item application process is egregiously slow. There is one application that I placed on September 26th 2023, that has yet to be answered. I know this is connected to a deceased character, but thinking about this in earnest; it is hard for me to want to continue with crafting. Putting in that effort, twelve logs and large blurbs to accompany them.

Only for it to sit in limbo unending, is not a good feeling. I would very much like a denial, or an answer if I possibly could.

And, another I posted on December 25th that has yet to be answered.

I understand that there is an incredible backlog of applications, but I am hoping that this could be a cautionary tale. It is really difficult for me to want to continue my characters, as I often find my IC entirely stunted while waiting for these items. I do hope that something can be done, as it has been a slow decline for me. Each time I put up an application I dread it, mainly because I feel like it’s a dead end.  Like the resource or item will never be accepted. I am unsure if this is a feeling others share, or something that has driven a stake into their motivation.

I certainly hope it hasn’t. I will be honest, if change does not happen soon- I’m unsure if this will continue to be the game for me. I often buy my sprites from local artists, and pay good cash so they can make something incredible. Two of these sprites, I'm unsure I'll get to see integrated into the game. Unfortunately, the application above is one of them. And the application below, is a resource needed to make the item itself. Either way, I spent about ninety dollars on these sprites I'm unsure anyone will get to enjoy.

Ahem. First rule of apping: Bump. Regularly. That being said? Yeah, item apps are taking longer and longer to go through and do. I myself bump every 2-3 days and I'm still waiting on an item from December 27th. It has its own really cool sprite, and I'm super excited about it but... It's not here. It's not approved. And it gets extremely frustrating. A month in limbo, like this, would ordinarily have been *five years*. Five. Luckily, instead, it's been more like three.

We have things such as Akroma's special material that are stuck in app hell to, among other things. Things that other people are waiting on. It's incredibly frustrating to have these things take so much time and effort on our end and then wonder if they're even getting seen.

As a Non crafter, but having interacted with several people who have worked on my items, please give them some love. Lots of IC are usually tied to such things, and being locked from a character arc due to app wait times (Ill sit and read every log if I have to to help), sucks for both parties.

I understand the app approval team is small, and have lives outside the game. (WE thank you for your sacrifices in reading our labours.) But perhaps it might be time to have more appmins on hand to deal with such a backlog, especially when ability apps have a 1 week wait time, with only 3 people on the app team (that i can see with appmin tags).

Just my two cents on the topic.

I have been bumping my applications every week, on the dot. Once the date turns over, I do a weekly bump.

For me, what Metrice is saying basically sounds like the crafting experience at the moment.

Idea -> Follow through and scene -> Walled by app.

The best way I could sum it up without writing some sort of insane essay is:

When you're crafting, brainstorming, and going through the proper rps of creating the item, it ends up being one of the most fun things to do within this game point blank period, but when all that rp becomes pointless, it just sucks.

I will say that as a person that has been waiting on two dev item responses for about 2 months, and is uncertain about putting more, the forms did not quite speed those responses up that is for certain.

Not to complain (I am one hundred percent complaining), and I know you guys do it for free and you're all busy, but... It would be nice to not wake up, look at the forums, and expect nothing for another day. I would even take a denial over that.

If there is anything we can do appmins to make it easier on the dev materials and items front, feel free to say or yell at us. I'm sure we would love to do so to make less work for you all, and still make interesting items. I just know that me and other crafter types have been suffering from this waiting since christmas, especially on the dev item front.

This is why there should be appmins and admins, if thats already a thing, then we need more admins.

Chance: Staff Roles

Administrator
An administrator has the duties of a moderator, but is more long-term/tenured. Aditionally, they process ability/item/other special requests, and are generally a more experienced point of reference.

Technically a thing yes.

But as I mentioned earlier, id be more then willing to help process the backlog.

There is a difference in trust between an appmin and an admin.

The latter is trusted to know the general state of the game, including potentially secret stuff behind closed doors

an appmin is trusted at a further level, to be utterly unbiased when presented with logs of characters interacting. This goes beyond simply having a surface level of what's going on - you literally have access to entire scenes recorded.

It's hard to just promote someone off the street and give them that level of responsibility.

this it's hard to just go 'promote more so apps speed up'

how many people in the game would you *really* trust to know every single detail that goes on behind closed doors? without judging, without bias, and without it affecting their own characters in any way, shape or form?
