New Dawn Fades

The cradle of modern civilization covered in blood and destroyed. 

Swallowed up by an ever growing, sickening void.

The masses forget, civilization grows.

How long has it been?

They swarm in masses cannibalizing everything we have to offer.

As we put arms where legs, and legs where arms should go.

We began to realize that it is far too late.

The event horizon had been crossed.

Like rats we hide within enclaves, clinging to each other as the sun sets.

The first nights come and the fear grows wilder.

Fear turns to panic, and panic turns to betrayal.

A brother kills a brother. A neighbor kills a neighbor.

The enclaves shrink, alliances formed, secret wars fought.

All the while our overlords hunt us down like game.

Those left turn their back on long established tenets.

The madness begins.

In my restless dreams I still see that place.

You told me you’d take me back there someday.

But you never did.
