Arcana - Duelist's Prelude

Fliers, posters and expensively dressed couriers have been seen about Meranthe advertising a new tournament. One of intelligence, reflexes and wit. An Arcana Tournament to be hosted in neutral grounds where hostilities may only be settled with the game. A best of three tournament with prizes for top four finishers and participation awards for all others. The location of the tournament is kept secret however a transport service has been contracted to whisk participants to and from the grounds.

Despite the lavishness, there's rumour that this tournament is only a small taste, an interest check for something much grander.

With the tournament concluded, the winners are presented:

1st Place: Lumiel Lamanie
2nd Place: Shiva
3rd Place: Amygdala
4th Place: Clearwater Óir-gaoth

Additionally the Hostess had another important announcement to make:

"Another tournament, one far more interesting and exciting than the one that was hosted today. Divided into two sections, the tournament proper, at the end, to be hosted in my own lavish estate. And the elimination rounds, which will be much less structured and will take place across Meranthe."

"There will be extra rules added, to ensure only the right people make it to the finals. All participants will be given two tokens, name-pending, and on winning you may take two from your opponent. Only those that collect at least six of the tokens may be allowed to enter the final tournament. This Elimination period will last one full year."

"Additionally, speed is of the essence, the first three to make it to six tokens will be able to choose from one of three unique cards. They are one of a kind and will never be printed again, however, if you are defeated while you own one of these cards, your opponent may take it from you."

"Now, with the rules established, I must reveal the grand prize. The winner of the tournament may ask myself and my estate for anything they like. And so long as it's within our power, you will receive it. Oh, and you will also be crowned with the title 'King of Games'. First place is the only one which will receive a true prize, the rest will receive the same consolation prize as every other entry. So, make sure you play well."

"Now, as for the date, three years from now, after the release of the newest Beta set of cards. I feel that will allow things to be as fresh as possible."

"So, that new set never came out, huh? You can never trust games companies these days... Well! In the spirit of the game and in the spirit of seeding more rare cards into the ecosystem how about we do another little one for funsies?"

New fliers are shoved around Meranthe, even managing to show up in places you'd least expect from the pits of the darkest caves to, somehow, on top of Sheol's belltower. They advertise not just a tournament but a place where one might directly acquire some of the rarest Arcana cards... though at a price that might be considered steep for some.
