i don't even know how to pronounce most of the factions now let alone where they are. What do the birds do.

there is no better remedy to this than to seamlessly integrate into another character's story that will tell me exactly who to hate and what to think.

-A character or family that would logically hire a promising and creepy looking (but not like evil creepy looking necessarily) apprentice/scholar/scribe/alchemist/enchanter/maid that just got off the boat to meranthe.

-Be reasonably rich icly or a decently well known crafter/researcher icly so that it makes sense she's working for you. It'll probably depend on your character but the basic set up is you've got this immigrant apprentice that's working FOR you in exchange for either training or the opportunity to pursue her own studies. the slave labor thing was a joke. im not doing that. 

-So have a cauldron and anvil or I will cry and it will be your fault.

-I'm not gonna leech off your stuff I promise all I really want is a pointy hat. That's all I want.

-A semi-stay at home Scholar/Dual-Crafter/Maid/Medic/Cook. 
I am the forefront authority on useless RP. You will never get bored waiting 40 minutes for my on-screen keyboard posts. Research and artifice projects, cleaning and cooking and serving RP is what I was grown in a petri dish to do.

-Do you know how much cooler your character will look if I put like "Apprentice of house/sir/lady bartholomew" in my short description. I don't even have to do anything. I could just stand in town square with that in my short desc and everyone will think you're cool.

-Build a bear. I have no idea what most of these spells do, I'm convinced half of these brick your pc if you pick them. Tell me what to pick and I will trust your judgement as long as it's on theme. Make me cosplay your biggest rival and use me as a training dummy to get the upper hand.

-I will accept a cap 1 from said rival and lose forcing you to rescue me bi-weekly
