There weren't rumours, and there wasn't an auction to announce, instead advertisement had gotten out and about that there was a business opportunity for those willing to put in the work.

Firstly there was a itemised list of materials, that were sought after.

• 670 Earth Crystals
  
  Due to the volume required, and the busyness of the buyer, it's preferred that no amounts smaller than a hundred are supplied at a time, the supplier(s) will of course be paid.

..I'd forgot to mention the bounty on the required materials equates to roughly 67,000 coins, I've received roughly 337 earth crystals already from one customer."

A few crows were seen to flit free from the rooftops of the Waystone, and they'd carried leaflets far and wide. 

"I've collected the required quota of earth crystals, and a fair sum of both water and fire now too. These are the current totals, as is apparent I'll only be needing 700 water crystals and 380 fire crystals. I appreciate the business that the few who've stepped forward have provided."
