The Story of Fenyx
#1
"The Knight stood firm against the Dragon's attacks,
furious claws and burning flame. Sword and shield in hand..
He was all his people had left, for the great Wyrm would surely
descend upon the village below if he failed."

"But... a Dragon is HUUGE?! Isn't the Knight afraid Momma?"

"He is afraid Fen, but that's what makes him a Knight.
Even though he's scared, he knows that people are relying on him.
He can't let them down."

"....So what happened next?"

"Our noble warrior kept fighting, for hours they say..
Yet at the end? A great silence descended upon the village,
the sounds of such an epic battle fading from all ears as nothing but smoke could be seen.
Until... The Knight descends, burned, bleeding, but alive.
His courage saw him through.."

"He lived..?!"

"What kind of hero would let a Dragon eat good people, Fen?
A hero doesn't fight for themselves, they fight for other people.
That's what makes them different."

"I wanna be like that one day...
I'm gonna be a hero, Momma!"

"I'm sure you will, but for now..?
Let's get you to bed, a hero needs his rest."

Within the deepest depths of a growing boy's spirit, a spark had ignited.
A care for those who were the unfortunate victims of fate,
to protect those too weak to protect themselves.

Years pass, the boy grew, and yet so did his passion.
So many old stories and tales, legends and myths from ages past.
The chronicles of those who did the impossible and survived,
all because they were depended on, because they bore the hopes of others on their shoulders.

From the smallest spark, a fire had ignited.
A new
hero born from the ashes of fables.
A new Knight, to stand before the Dragon.

What is the measure of a true hero?

Some view a hero as an utter paragon of virtue.
A perceived perfection of the ideals of humanity.
Yet is that the correct perspective?

Should not the hero struggle to be,
to show others how to survive their own troubles?
Should not the hero have to face his own flaws,
his own fears?

His pain must be overcome,
so he can endure the pains of others.
He must draw strength from his own burdens,
so he may ease them from the shoulders of the weak.

A hero is not a marble statue,
carved and beautiful,
a hero is imperfect.

Yet must always strive to be better.
For that is the measure of their worth.
