Key/Character: Madri/Raenesa
Which Event: What IS That?!
Responsiveness (Were their narrations posted within a reasonable time-frame and were they quick to respond?): 10/10 - The narrations were posted within a reasonable timeframe, almost every time we were done having completed an action, or causing something to happen, there was only mere moments before a narration was posted, making things quick and efficient. In terms of responses, they were wonderfully detailed and quickly done, things felt reactive, and were put out extremely quick. This made things feel prepared, coordinated, and helped the entire event flow at a fast pace.
Balance (How entertaining were the battles, and any obstacles/traps?): 10/10 - The battles were extremely entertaining, it felt as though each of our kits were looked at to prescribe a proper challenge. When things were too easy? They were tuned upwards, and when things were harder, avenues to weaken our enemy were offered through roleplay. These were some of the most fun EC's to fight, and the varied kits they held offered plenty of challenges throughout the event. In terms of obstacles, the riddle at the beginning of the Lab was thought provoking, and a fun way to set the pace for the event, with a more melancholy, suggestive riddle, it was only the beginning, and was used as a device for great storytelling.
Storytelling (Did it feel like an adventure, did the content of the narrations meet your expectations?): 10/10 - In terms of storytelling, the event was amazing. As we entered, we were immediately plunged into the feeling that we were being watched, driving the party to investigate further, and cause caution. The signs on the horizon which we were given in terms of figures moving about, of running into strange creatures outside, all served to create suspense, and provide a measure of challenge for the group before really delving in, allowing us to understand what we were getting into. The general atmosphere for the lab which was crafted served to really drive home the horror themes, leading to further worry, and excitement from the group as a whole, with vivid description, and perfect imagery given to hook us in.
Each mini-boss seemed to have a purpose as a whole, starting off with "Patrick" which served as an amalgamation of three children, stolen from Delphina and experimented upon. Rather than feeling as if we were fighting some evil force, it was a heavy battle, upon which we fought to give our enemy mercy, rather than put them down. It set a somber tone, highlighting the brutality of the lab, and intertwining with the backstory of Raenesa (Me!) having been Queen of Delphina for a time. It was an engaging first challenge, which captured our attention and only made us wish to go deeper.
The subtle descriptions of the room being destroyed as we fought, leading to the floor collapsing as we defeated the enemy was a great touch, and served to smoothly shepard us along to the next part of the story which began Act: 2! The setting which you created was amazing, helping us to feel a sudden surprise and dread as we faced a fearful enemy. The description used really helped highlight how grotesque the creature was, and the jovial nature contrasted the serious tones, not disrupting the atmosphere, but actually ADDING to how creepy the boss was. After having been defeated we were then led to Act: 3!
Doctor Vesper served as the perfect 'Big Bad' pulling out sudden reveals for other characters in the group, and holding an air of arrogance and strength. The most amazing storytelling happened after we had believed we defeated him, only for him to grow into a fearful, large beast, overwhelming the group. We then tapped into powers, at the cost of our vitality, making our choices feel weighty, and not too punishing, but also feeding into the story further, such power being derived from the souls lost in the lab. The fight itself was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfectly crafted for the apex of this event.
Fairness (Were the punishments justified and earned, was the risk to reward ratio good?) 10/10 - The fights, and the roleplay felt plenty fair, we were often given clues, or able to weaken enemies through creative means. Things were adjusted in order to pose a challenge, but still be winnable. The risks taken were rewarded perfectly, and no one felt helpless mechanically throughout the fights, while still remaining engaging.
Overall: 10/10 - Thank you for my first event!
Any other comments: You asked for descriptive, I gave descriptive <3
