To Royce's family and friends:

It is with the deepest regret that I must inform you of the death of your relative, valiant man-at-arms Lieutenant Royce ███████, was killed in action on the mainland of Meranthe sometime within the year of 20██. From what details I have gathered from his fellow servicemen, he went down fighting against a notorious demon that have plagued the lands. Given his battle prowess and raw power, I can assure you that the fiend carries several scars of their own that they will never forget.

Admittedly, I have found some trouble finding a next-of-kin to send this letter to. On file, Royce did not enlist under a last name, and further digging beyond his time in basic military training had yielded no leads. I used personal connections from my family and the Church of Twelve to pinpoint some distant address in the northlands of our great nation in finding you. The purpose of this letter is not to judge the closeness you've all may or may not have had with Royce, but to highlight his accolades during service to Her Majesty, Queen Irene II.

Royce started off as a cadet like the rest of us when Lyonesse was but just an aisle and we were but a division of few. He had participated in several raids against the demonic horde festering in the bowels of their self-proclaimed nation of Abendrot; one with a personal desire of his to liberate their slaves. This is not including his participation of the dozens of patrolling missions around Meranthe to hunt down demons with fellow servicemen.

You should be very proud of him. He was a very direct and often blunt, young man who was certainly well liked by his fellow servicemembers. He had a love for sparring, otherwise he would not have excelled to the heights of being the Command's man-at-arms for lack of proficiency with a weapon. In spite of his funny nature, talk was cheap when foes belittled those he cared about. Royce exhibited a strong loyalty to us that lead him to the development of many friendships and associations even on the natives of Meranthe.

Appropriate memorial services are to be conducted in his memory and officiated by myself and another colleague of mine who he had been close to, Alhena. It sickens me that we could not recover his body so he may receive a proper burial in Aen, but I hope that the pair of shades enclosed with this package shall suffice. They were the earliest iteration of his trademark style before he moved on to a flashier pair, apart from the several letters from other Sailors attached in a separate parcel.

The Command and Her Majesty herself offer you our greatest thanks for providing such a hero. His courageous example in making the supreme sacrifice has given us renewed strength to carry on to the completion of the unfinished tasks now before us.

Very Respectfully,
Chaplain A. Avincus
LYONESSE COMMAND CHAPLAIN
