Instead of having an RPP/mastery point tax that you have to pay to get a stance, why not just give them a 180 RPL requirement and let people take one for free?
Stances are boring. No one wants to have to pay what they could spend on acquiring cool things like flashy spells to take the thing that'll actually let them win in fights.
Want to take a mastery spell plus a typical +15% AP mastery aura? Sorry, but Joe McMeta with Windwalker and Primordial Flame just smoked you because he's way speedier, is coating the battlefield in fire, and has a ton more AGI than you... and on top of that has 25% AP compared to your 15%.
Take two mastery spells and no aura or stance? He'll have all the above advantages and he'll outdamage you way more, even with that fancy magic of yours, so you're gonna get smoked again.
A lot of Mastery spells just aren't worth it compared to the good shit like stances and auras. For instance, Lion Fire Barrage is cool as hell, but why take it other than for fluff reasons when you can take the thing - a stance or (for instance) Primordial Flame - that will make everything else you use instantly stronger without even blowing a slot (or two) on your hotbar? The benefit that the Mastery gives has to be worth giving up an aura or stance, and I'm sorry to say that most of the Masteries are likely not worth that benefit without buffs.
