The Good Doctor

Life was returned to me,
but I didn't know what to do with it.
It was a long time before I found a clue.
The person that helped me, of course, was him.


He told me the right thing to do was often unpopular. I asked him how to know what I should do.
His face lit up with the first vestiges of warmth I'd ever seen. I'll never forget what he told me.

"The 'right thing', one would argue, is the set of actions that lays solid foundations for future advancement, avoids overt cruelty, tries to bring an outcome wherein the most sapient souls live in relative happiness, and avoids cutting short other lives as best as possible."
