"Not all secrets should be uncovered. Better that some things lie dead and dormant."

Over a year has transpired since we departed for Myllenoris. I pray that Asphodel fares well without me, but for the time being the work here is important than anything else I could contribute. I am sure they scarcely miss a cripple like me.
Even wounded as I am I can hold myself well against the beasts of the Vale as we work to break the seal that binds us here. While investigating some abandoned ruins I caught the scent of fresh blood and knew I was in another predator's hunting grounds. As we tracked it back to the source we caught the thing, half-man and half-wolf. Hungry and hating. Golden eyes alight with malice.

Through great effort the three of us managed to finish the monstrosity's rampage. Its blood was some of the best I have been graced to consume to date. The thrill of besting a fellow hunter while keeping with my morals. Perhaps that is what gave me the clarity of mind to make the choice that many will likely condemn as foolish.
A Teraphim woman had fallen prey to the attack and was left with her innards exposed to the elements. "The phial." she crooned in a flagging voice. I opened the satchel that had been strewn across the parched dirt and found within it fabled White Oil. Enough to heal her wounds.. Or my own. I could have used it, mended myself, and stolen her heart.. Repaired it all in a single fateful stroke.

Yet I poured it on her wounds. Told her who I am, what I am, and not to look down upon my kind. We must be more than our base desires lest we become that rabid monster lost in the throes of hunger.
I rejected completion to retain humanity.
That is what I tell myself.
