I’ve done everything to please you.

Ever since she left, I’ve done everything in my power to be the perfect son that you wanted me to be. I was the eldest, and so I did things even if I didn’t want to do them. I did everything for you.

And then suddenly, my priorities changed.
I did everything for my people, once I became Oracle. Even if you didn’t like it, I focused on them.

I did everything for my family, once I became a Father. I didn’t try to strangle Tanya once she revealed what she was; I encouraged her to be her own individual person. I didn’t stomp Taleya in righteous anger like you would have, I nurtured her. I didn’t smother Auriel, I let him blossom into his own being.

Is that what I did wrong?

Maybe if I wasn’t such a bad son, neither of you would have left.

You hit me, and told me I wasn’t your son. You attacked me. I tried my best to not hurt you, and in fact I even targeted your armor… But I know it was useless. I built it. I know. It’ll just self-repair. But it’s the fact that I was more than willing to damage something I built out of pride and desire to please you with everything I had learned, than you. You were willing to hurt me no matter what it took - and you did.

Even if I won, you still hurt me. Do you even know? Do you care?
How long had you kept this single flower on you since she left?

Your fate won’t be my own. I’ve proven it here, tonight, that I’m my own person. No longer do you order me around, no longer do you command me. I command myself. And perhaps… That’s what you’re most afraid of. But you raised me to be like this; I was always the child to talk back, to point out when you were wrong. Genevieve did anything and everything to please you, even if you were blatantly incorrect. Cilian was too shy to speak up against you… It was always me.

And I always thought you respected me for that. Was that a lie, too? Did you ever even care for any of us? Or were we just means to an end for you, to grasp onto
