Extinction (Certain Death)

Autumn came and went. So lovely, too, it was.

  

..Or so Katsuhito had heard. Hardly had he a moment to experience it himself, deep underground as he was.
  

Then came Winter, colder than any before it.

  

The political dealings give way to a march some ten thousand or so stronger, dotting the landscape with war-camps that he might spot in-between his frequent trips in and out of the land of the Empire. The deposited sum of precious metals that he'd stripped from the land in order to defend it find rapid use in the creation of a new fleet, and some odd defenses scattered throughout the north.

 
Finally, then, was Spring - and with it, War.
  

Bloodshed. A statement made by their enemies, and a statement given in response. Shaken soldiers, henceforth greeted by the rousing call of Invictus in one of his countless speeches, notice thereafter the melody of strings. Jade feathers flutter down from open wings, highlighting and contrasting the white-clad Drakanite that drew nearer. His presence is perhaps known to much of the forces, having made it his active duty to increase their quality of life through the distribution of luxury food items and amenities - but what proved more odd, perhaps, was the presence one Melionette Meandersong in his wake.

 

"Have you any doubt that we will persevere, you need only look to your left and right."

   

He had but one gift left to give.

  

"You need only look to yourself."

 

A familiar tune ripples across the open tundra, bounding through the stone passageways of the Citadel, the dotted camps of the North, and the streets of Xuefeng. A rising melody ripples outward, carrying itself across a dotted connection of wind spirits to find and reach all who need hear it. The strings themselves, occasionally accompanied by the dance of chimes or the reinforcing notes of a piano from source unseen, tell a rousing tale of triumph in the face of adversity. They promise no peace on this eve - but prosperity, on the one to follow. Through application of sound magic in the most literal sense might they invoke bravery and courage -

  

"You need only look to the world around you, and swear yourself to all which you stand to protect."

   

A steadfast command, running in tandem with the start of a performance. The voice of an aforementioned Siren breaks through.

 

Tides wax and wane, wearying one's mien,
Currents always aflow, never quite the same,
The path to the morrow will be a weighted slog,
For onwards we must trudge, through the bloody bog,

Light oft grows dim, hope's little lamp flickering,
Shadows carve a path forward, our breaths quickening,
Yet never does the beacon fade, tucked in life's little maze,
That longing, enduring; to live and fight another day,

Dare to float, when waters look to drag you under,
Dare to remain whole, when winds would cut you asunder,
Dare to keep upright, when a blaze would see you scattered,
Dare to walk, when ice would see the path forward tattered,

The song of beginning is here, the ground resounds with cheer,
For even beneath the twilight, there will be a showing here,
Spring's meadow and it's song, a gentle reminder interlaced,
Even from the cold empty, life dares to thrive with no abate.
