Transitioning away from ability apps

I think the premise if fine. Apping and waiting for replies can be down-right stressful and feel like its under a bridge of scrutiny from many people. One of my issues come with the idea of factions and someone wanting to be anti-society. If someone wanted to not be in a faction / organization, but stay strictly to something simple, like banditry and building off that, what would be the requirements for it?

I suppose the main issue is faction boons being already great -but something for the people that say 'hell to factions' would work (I suppose I am saying that I want non-faction people to be able to rise through the ranks as well and also the idea of 'legit commends'.)
