i wonder if you remember as clear as i do
that day we had escaped momentarily our gilded, glass cage;
you managed to convince me, just for a night of fun -

"This could be our only chance to attend this festival, you know!"

you said with such confidence, and i couldn't say no
our kimono handpicked, you helped me over the fence -

and before i knew it, our hands were full - held by eachother,
and a paper lantern tightly grasped in the other.

i couldn't contain my laughter as you placed the oni mask.
how fondly i remember catching goldfish with paper net,
only to set them back out, for we knew we'd get in trouble

that night is so vividly ingrained in my memory
you pulled me along to see the fireworks as the lanterns lit up the sky
and i made my wish to always be with you,

even if we would remain in our gilded cage
as your smile
imprints in my memory...
