I am something of a distracted inventor. My interests take me in my entirety, often at the dismay of those around me. Still, I like to think what I make can be useful. The boxes have their charm, ingenious that. But I did myself proud with the latest iteration of stealth technology. Utilizing shenghese origami principals and corresponding runic applications I have made a self-expanding cloak that mimics common flora. One that can be automatically formed into a hand-held cube for ease of storage. The aptly named 'Natural Disguise MK1' has shown promise and I had given the prototype to Enrica. I had hoped to know how effective it would be, and I would be lying if I said it did not bring me a measure of joy to hear she appreciated me.

Not many do.

I have resolved myself to accept her loss in the skirmish. I know of Osrona's tendency to deal with child soldiers. The... prisoner exchange failed. I am upset, but I know it will accomplish nothing to mourn over her. I did not know the girl well. Still, I held her in higher regard than many others. This had been the third such skirmish I partook in. Former private Leon had received a promotion for his contribution to the war effort. I, as always, remain but a private despite my tenure. My desire for a promotion admittedly does not extend far. Mere recognition that I am no longer fresh blood would have been all I needed. 

I am disposable. Just as Enrica was.

My thoughts keep returning to my brief conversation with an enemy combatant. An anarchist dedicated to keeping the country at war for their own unknown reasons. I almost asked their name. But it was too late.

I cannot shake this urge to learn more.
