On the Subject of Status, 1660 AC

We, my esteemed peers, stand at the center what can only be described as a revolution. The events of last evening speak for themselves. We find that those who loiter outside of the walls of this great city do not respond to civility and reason. We find that they are, in fact, everything that they pretend they are not. Those who would oppose us assume the form and shape of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. Physically, these creatures bear a striking resemblance to us. For at one point in time, we too, members of this great nation's peerage, were counted among this caste of savages.

But then, our ancestors—the champions of old, the vanguards of Osrona—proved themselves capable of ascending to positions worthy of prowess and privilege. There is question among the masses, on the debate of our wealth and our status. It is a question of worth.

Are we worthy of our boons?

The answer is not a complicated one.

The reason we stand to enjoy these luxuries is because our ancestors possessed a certain quality that allowed them to transcend the barbarism that plagues the bloodlines of the urchins that call Sudbury their home. The signet rings on our fingers, the ones forged by the Petrakis dynasty, were not awarded to us because our families inherited wealth over generations.

They are not symbols of financial security, but rather, symbols of worth. They are icons that lend themselves to the fact that we stem from the blood of champions, who by following their own creeds, rose to the occasion when others cowered in fear of the responsibilities that our ancestors bore on their brows and backs.
