Rent and economy. - Alex - 05-06-2020 I don't know if anyone has ever made this suggestion, if not? I'll be the first. Wouldn't it be cool if: When someone pays Rent for their house/tavern/inn etc, the money goes into the guild bank that owns the place. Then, that guild can give their soldiers a wage for serving in the military. This adds an economy to the game. Money, instead of disappearing into the void when someone pays rent, it will be circulated. It can also be cool RP device if faction leader x suddenly steals all the money in the town causing the town to go into a recession. Idk. It makes sense to me. Yes, I know understand that with tree cutting and stuff over time there will be more and more money but... That's how the world works irl as well. When characters die and forget to drop money, it will still vanish. Yes, prices will go up over time but still.. I think it'll add some realism to the economy of spires. Thank you. RE: Rent and economy. - Theori - 05-06-2020 The main issue I see people mentioning regarding something like this is the lack of money sinks. The building system makes it a bit better, but there needs to be more impact for coin to allow a better economy. I'm in favour of this, but yeah, more things to spend money on needed. RE: Rent and economy. - Enginseer-42 - 05-06-2020 Honestly the main issue is kind of the opposite. We need more ways to make money and circulate it. As it is, Crafters tend to get rich and stay rich. RE: Rent and economy. - Koriv - 05-06-2020 Even as a crafter I find myself running out of money buying seeds. RE: Rent and economy. - Milly - 05-06-2020 laughs in double crafter RE: Rent and economy. - Megasnail - 05-06-2020 Personally, I'd love it if all stalls / houses / any rent able had a 'tax' percentage, which any settlement may alter. So basically, every tick of a day over, the guild would essentially 'get their taxes' from the shops and everything. I feel that this, would aid in the natural progression of the more active locations, as they will be able to invest their coins more directly on their settlement. Even if the tax percent increased the maintenance costs. I also like the idea and plot line, of bad people using the tax payers money for personal benefit, then all the IC backlash from that. I personally feel something along these lines could be cool. Promotes growth to the settlements with the most activity(if shops are there, they're earning money so people are buying from there, etc.) RE: Rent and economy. - Theori - 05-06-2020 I miss the ideas behind the Mayor of Sudbury, getting a stipend you could invest or embezzle. That would have been cool to see. I've had a shop that almost noone buys anything from for ages, because someone set up a contract for all the good stuff I find, so it's full of basic ores. Even if the tax percent increased the maintenance costs. This is the dream but without an actual money sink all this accomplishes is putting gold back into the game after it's been 'sunk'. There needs to be a better way to spend money that's a consistent spender of coins before we do anything that's going to flood the entire playerbase back with coins. As I've made mention in Discussion(discord), even 50 coins per person is enough to cause a massive influx of money to be placed back into the game. |
