The vision shifted.

A dark, damp room. Shadows flickered against the walls. The air was heavy with something unspoken.

“This will grant him life. It’s this or we sacrifice him for the island’s protection.”

“And you’re certain he will be blessed?”

The images blurred. An arrow loosed. A divine presence—vast, unknowable.

Blessed? The word rang hollow. 
A wave of unworthiness crashed into him. 
The image of a single wing. 
And then— 
A deep voice rumbled, shaking him to his core: 

“You’ll have to earn it.”

I survived.

The headaches that followed for years, a constant calling to claim something. Something that had been granted to him by grace.

But when we receive a kindness that saves our lives, what do we do with it?

Claiming one roots is recognizing oneself and embracing the foreign within.

"Khaeeris!" The image of Jupiter sharing his name with Liquorice.

"Sweet moon, crimson moon."

"On the island of Tootori, it is on the black moons that the spirit descends to grant a wish!" Tootori. The spirit that comes from the moon.

"We all receive our names from the moon!"

The image of the bleeding moon.

"The lifestream is disturbed!" The words echoed again.

(Yes. Now that you have returned to you, you shall return to them.)

"It will be on the black moon!" He said, determined. He accepted not a journey of conquest against evil, but a journey of accepting things as they are, but, above all, accepting who he was.

The wing was visible once more. Perhaps he would not hide it anymore.
