Collection of Observations: Of Death - Regalus - 12-20-2024 "You remain here still... why?"
-
"Because I have many things yet to do.-
"No. No longer. You are dead. There is none left for you to do.
-
"Uncountable before me have come and uncountable still yet after me. Many have become an exception. Who knows...It is only death, nothing much. I shall continue walking." -
"Those who defy death are of exceptional worth, carving their names upon this world... regardless for its betterment or not.
You are not one such."
-
"They are not of my concern. I continue. As I have nigh a century ago. As I do today. Grasping upon this soul of mine.-
"Why do you torment yourself so?
-
"I have told you already. I have many things yet to do.-
"Tell me of them.
-
"I have books to copy and write.Time to record and catalogue. Places to visit and update. A tower to awaken. ... I must visit those grove of mushrooms where my brother Acero lies. I must save a tankard of ale for Seryn, where we last drank. ...Water the sunflowers upon Raian's grave. ...To see to that little project I promised to delve with Asa. ...Write a letter to my daughter, Delilah, wherever she may be. ...To continue awaiting for Ahwul. ...Take that page that Lore owes me quite dearly... along with Svengalf and Loramelian's too. ...Awaiting a brother lost to return. ...Arkeid ...Fauldr ...Umbra ...Alhart ..." -
"You speak a lot of the past."
-
"Naturally. I am a chronologer after all. Self-titled it may be.-
"You have remembered more than you've bothered to live."
-
"Indeed, what better for a chronologer to do.-
"A pitiful life. One whose meaning was wholly given by others.
-
"And what of it?-
"You had a promise, did you forget?
-
"Paraskevi? Indeed... to be part of history, yes? I did, to give back the knowledge I had horded.
-
"And you failed.
Not one book did you complete. Hardly have you ever taught. Nary a life changed for the better. You remained cooped up in your library most of your time. Nobody remembered you or what you did... because no one was there to see it. You have lived... a completely pathetic life." -
"... Indeed. "-
"So why do you think you deserve a second chance?
-
"I never said I did.-
"So why do you continue on?
-
"I am hardly the first human to reach for something that he doesn't deserve."-
"Indeed you don't deserve this. No one does. To know what you know yet continue? Utter torment."
-
"You're right. I have grown... to despise living. To watch as people become history, to see dreams become dust, to witness..."-
"So stop. Rest. Many have lived long lives but you who live through the lives of others...
As one who does nothing but remember... you have died too many times without dying. Lay down your pen and paper and rest."
-
"... No.That's the one thing I cannot do. Not until someone... can carry this book I have written... and the weight of the names within. For at the very least... they all still live within." -
"... Somewhat heroic...
But are you done lying to yourself?" -
"..."-
"You sacrificed your life for your friend, Oliphr... but you have never believed in sacrifices, don't you?"
-
I believe in sacrifices, but the definition of the word are twisted by others. Their sacrifices... are nothing but arrogation, vainglory. That their own lives are something for them to wield and trade with like currency. It is a curse they pass on to the next generation and the next.
-
Tell me... why are you here?"
-
"..."-
"You have recorded the myriad lands and seas, from cities to forests to underwater depths, in that book of yours. (Space)
You have bore witness to the rise and fall of societies and civilizations, noted crumbling histories and sagas anew.(Time)
You have written down wars between the tribes of man and the fel, and all those in between, seeing their highest heights and lowest depths. (Hope and Despair) You have taken the pages bearing the biographies of individuals. Even those of mere flora and fauna are not spared your ink. (Life)
-
The art of wayfinding, studying the form of the lifestream.
The art of golemancy, giving immaterial spirits form as true life.
The art of medicine, the principles and continuation of life.
The art of artificery, the science of creation.
The art of alchemy, the science of the material.
The art of Runemancy, the foundations of the world
Even Faith.
-
You have recorded all that you can in that world...
-
What you have done has not escaped me.
-
All that would have been left for you is..."
-
"...to record the phenomenon known as (Death) and afterwards...
A Complete and Perfect Record of this World.
Isn't that right... Regalus?"
-
- - That inquisitive being was a treat amidst this dark, empty place. Perhaps a mirage of mine, perhaps not. Regardless... Even dead, I couldn't help but smirk just a little bit. - "To learn of the past.
To record the present. To witness the future. To take the world within my eyes." - "You know... You never told me your name.
... Who are you?"
RE: Collection of Observations: Of Death - Regalus - 01-11-2025 "Indeed my death is not of pure intent. There was an opportunity to accelerate my plans, along with some added benefits, hence I had taken it.
But I have said no lies, stranger.
I simply did not state the whole truth. Hehe, I feel it. This'll be good bye." ... "For Now. With Death, you have all but nigh completed your Collection of Knowledge. Surely a meagre thing such as losing your memories is something you've taken into account." |
