Varesia - heartkreuz - 11-10-2024 "La letra con sangre entra."
Varesia has a predominant martial ethos, it's common to find their members sparring each other until exhaustion. The compulsory military service, commonly called CMS, starts at eleven years old and holding scars before sixteen years old is not only usual but also seen as a badge of honor among Varesians "Scars make the warrior". The martialism is a consequence of the founders early life and upbringing, leaking into other facets of life, the group of Valmasians who created the guild were also child soldiers, the harsh reality of Crater City and subsequent life in Meranthe forged the principles of Varesia. The military is the jewel of the crown, to that question people make around meranthe "What's mightier the pen or the sword?" their answer is clear "It's the sword who allows and protects the pen, or subyugates it if necessary." In their ethos "Might is Right." Dueling is an institution in Varesia, it's legal and highly regulated, disputes can be put aside with a duel, it needs to be submitted to a Commissar who will be in charge of accepting or denying the duel as well as the intensity of such, as well as write down a report on the motives, members and aftermath of said conflict. The attitude on such event is valorated and can be expressed on the following Varesian saying "Humble in victory, graceful in defeat." Holding grudges over duels are considered weakling behaviour which is usually shunned among the members, now duels can be declined if there is not enough solid basis for such, rationalism is key in a society that understands the importance of violence in life. Influenced by La Unión from C.C.Varesia is about the comrades, the people in there especially the non-magi, the invisible people, using the surplus production to achieve the goals of the nation. Varesian patriotism lies in the well-being of the community, prioritized over individual gain. Varesia is all about unity, working together, fighting together, and more importantly… Dying together.
Personalisms aren't welcome, it is not about the story of the Primarch, the Praetor or the Direktor of R&D, it is about Varesia first and foremost, the legacy is not a last name but the infraestructure, values and principles. Nationalism is hardly a thing in meranthe, drinking ideologically from Valmasia, the concept is pushed on the Varesian structure, they wear a black fist pin, usually on the lapel and don't hesitate to hail their nation. Originally, the idea was to just establish the Tenebris as de-facto mercenary clan, then upon meeting with the Kozak clan when establishing in the plaguelands, the project evolved into something bigger namely Varesia, taking them into their protection, since their farmlands were constantly in danger, quickly pacifying the place through sheer violence. Clans are welcome into Varesian society, yet, since nepotism is banned from public positions of power, highly specialized clans serve as a letter of recommendation for their members. All ranks of Varesia are military in nature, even if their functions are civilian, the Direktor may order an army Legatus to square and salute even though he is engaged in research. The Primarch holds the title of 'Primus inter pares' denoting that the head of state must be present on the battlefield as well as any other troop. Objections of morality are admitted, but each soldier must be aware that they may be court-martialed in case of disobedience. The meritocratic will of the guild is the perfect incentive for those daring to push themselves aiming for promotions. Primarch: The head of state, leader of it all. Praetor: Second in command, leader of the military, the commander of Varesia. Duarchy: Composed by the Chancellor and the Direktor. Chancellor: Prime Minister of Varesia, works along the Direktor, sharing the same rank. Direktor: Leader of the R&D unit, this rank is in charge of the projects for the settlement. Legatus: Leader of a squadron, a captain of Varesia. Commissar: The people in charge for the things running smoothly in the settlement, they are also the ones who can accept or deny duel requests issued by citizens. Comrade: The key of Varesia, workers that excel and inspire the rest to follow their footsteps. Citizen: The bulk of the population, those whose daily work build the basis of Varesia with their sweat. Nepotism is banned from public life, every rank will be filled with those proven to be the best. Varesians don't care if you are a magical beast, a demon, a nephilim or a simple human, your origin doesn't matter, they don't care about how gifted you can be, only hard work is taken into account with your service under the black fist banner and tasks are issued regularly. Family heirlooms and personal inheritances are allowed, yet, failures receiving stuff without being worthy of it is socially shunned, it is encouraged for parents to push the potential of their kids, in whatever field they are interested to before granting them anything. Varesia praises effort. The same applies for clans, due to the meritocratic nature, a clan oriented on a specific task can commend a member of their own for such specific task, yet members are entitled to nothing despite the reown. Any commended member will have to prove to Varesia their worth, just like any other orphan might need to do, you won't be alone in your efforts, your comrades will enable the opportunities as long as you put your share of work. If the military is the jewel of the crown, the R&D team is the crown itself supporting the precious stones. The same ethos applies to this unit, seeking excellence, cooperating with your comrades and pushing the limits of reality through science is an obligation for those who chose the Research and Development team. Considering their line of work, they are exempt from the frontlines. The Direktor as a rank five position, can even command lower ranked comrades to assist in a project, the martial discipline exists even in this line of work, after all Varesia's motto is: Might & Progress
The expectations are high and following the lines of what was expressed, members of this unit are the most hardworking ones, current projects are around the extraction of energy from a volcano, denominated project HoV.
As materialists in the philosophical sense, they are completely opposed to idealism. Atheism for obvious reasons is not viable, so the approach is to view the manifestations of the pantheon or other deities as something childish in which the gods don't care about eternians but their quarrels, as it is being seen with the schism. Varesia's view is that the events concerning Eternia is for Eternians to deal with, if gods remain in their plane, all is right with the world. Expressions of faith are to be made in private and after a proper registration.
Then, deities who represent natural effects like the cycle of death and life represented by Saekanis and Asena, Kraus' creation and such elements are not object of antagonism for Varesians, the deities they oppose are those who stick their nose blatantly, those who manifest themselves and use humanoids like pawns, with prerrogatives and justifications more proper of a mortal than those of a god. Eternia for Eternians. Any proper society needs a cultural vanguard, those who live on the edge appreciate the arts wether is music, painting or poetry in their off-duty time. A passionate culture who can swing the blade or the brush with the same deadly intent. Those who want to enrich Varesian society with their skills are more than welcome, the bellicose group is especially interested in those who can paint with acrylic and water colors as well as charcoal drawings. Some people among the group are also claiming the need of a metal band, yet the appreciation for music is broad, having some tenor singers already.
In time, the goal is to offer the same incentives for these arts as the ones offered for the martially inclined people, nonetheless, artists will be cherished as they deserve with their contributions to the society.
