The Shigenobu Clan - Benyah - 07-01-2024

The Shigenobu Clan: Overview

Nestled within the Mountainous regions of Xuefeng, far removed from the modernist lifestyles of those within the warmer cities resides the Shigenobu clan, the clan is most notable for its it's connection to the pinnacle of nobility within Xuefeng, nonetheless that is not to diminish the fact that these minor nobles have earned their right to be at the table.

As a tribute, all young men and women of the Shigenobu household, on, or before their 21st birthday are by duty, required to serve Xuefeng's military in some capacity, though that varies depending on what is judged to be sufficient for that individual clan member by the Daimyo.

The Shigenobu consider themselves to be just, and righteous sons and daughters of Ualdir who seek nothing but to execute upon their divine rite of Tyranny. Alas, however, the Shigenobu have grown stagnant throughout the years, becoming complacent and content with their lot within the expansive empire of Daimyo Miyuhiko, and Shogun Mikoto.

Rumors have spread throughout nearby regions indicating the Shigenobu have lost the faith of their patron God, but clan elders deny this claim.

The Shigenobu: Religion

The Shigenobu are firm practitioners of Ualdir's faith, as a matter of fact, they salivate at the mention, or chance of battle. The Shigenobu practice a unique brand of worship, as while Ualdir urges to abandon morality, the Shigenobu will never neglect their honour, for many are samurai.
Naturally, disobeying with one core tenant of a well established religious practice draws criticism, so much so that the Shigenobu would be better off erecting their own sect of worship, as they find the concept of abandoning one's morality a slippery slope, as it often leads to a loss of honor.
Nonetheless, they follow Uladir's traditions, and teachings thoroughly. When it suits them.

Weddings:
Weddings in the religion of Ualdir centers themselves on pacts of protection and blood. To swear an oath of marriage to another is to swear your life upon their own. In the event they are to be killed you are to save them and treat them as your own life, yet upon event they sway from favorability, it is your duty to spare the tribe or perhaps the world of their unfavorable acts. Among the faith it is normal for couples to be hyper-possessive and invested in one another to the point of constant engagement. This is largely due to seeing the expense of liberty as a tribute to a grand achievement, thus seeking to make greatness from their investment of departing with complete individualism. There is a lot of trust involved in this tying of fates, adultery being a severe act of dishonor for all involved.

Some of another outlook on Ualdir’s romance practice polygamy as a form of expressing independence, innocent enough among wandering craftsmen. Specifically with certain warlords in the Silent Expanse it is significantly unfair, immoral, and self-serving in the way it is practiced. Arranged marriages and other diplomatic gestures are increasingly common as mediums to alliances in the warring dunes, though none seem to last long enough to see the next generation. Individuals who marry into warbands which grow to oppose their origin tribe traditionally join the family of their partner in battle, it is seen as a dishonor even by former allies to refuse battle of previous family or friends on the path of war.

During rituals of bonding it is traditional to draw your own blood upon the weapon of your partner, then for them to do the same for your own. Then exchanging weapons back and sheathing them, an oath of personal creation is spoken, usually speaking to the greater qualities of the other person in praise. After both parties have said their vows they continue with making mutual aspirations towards their goals. It is perfectly acceptable for couples to exaggerate or be hyperbolic during these declarations, their confidence a sign of unabashed love.

Secret Societies
All Shigenobu are bestowed an insignia ring with the clan's crest seared into it's being.

Nakashima
The Nakashima are more traditionally inclined Shigenobu, to this end, they pursue abandoning their morality, including honor in its entirety. They're an extremely traditionalist, and hegemonic bunch, which the majority of the elders fall within. Naturally the Nakashima are the first to render a duel for any perceived disrespect, or dispute. Be it small, or otherwise.

Under regular circumstances, most societies avoid the Nakashima as they few them as "backward" if not "uncivilized" and "blood lusted". The Nakashima are extremists within the Shigenobu clan.

Mochizuki:
The Mochizuki are considered moderates, philosophers, and politically active Shigenobu. Whilst they abide by the religion of the clan, it is rumored members of the Mochizuki secret society follow the Fourfold Path. In fact, this has caused many conflicts with the Nakashima, as they believe the Mochizuki is "steadily eroding the traditions of the household for feminine beliefs".

Due to this statement, the Mochizuki and Nakashima are not currently on speaking terms.

Moriyama:
The Moriyama are the rejects of the Shigenobu clan, ironically predetermined to not be of much value to the clan due to whatever reason. This may be because the child is a bastard. This may be because, the child is crippled, blind, or deaf. Any child that deviates from what is deemed proper by the Mochizuki, or a suitable body to commit to war by the Nakashima is thrust here without question.

Despite that, these misfits take pride in who they are, and so they rebel against their preconceived fate. Many Moriyama children have risen to the pinnacle of the Shigenobu clan, despite their journeys having been predetermined to be much harsher. Of course, the clan loves stories of overcoming strife and perseverance. As these children have proven their stripes, they can choose which secret society to join... should they receive an invite from those within the shadows of the household.

Hierarchy:
Clan Leader - Official Title: Commander, can be from any secret society, however it is typically hereditary unless exceptional circumstances are met.

Spiritual Guide - Official Title: War Kannagi (Shaman)

Clan Representative - Official Title: Legate, typically a Mochizuki

Clan Court - Typically the Elders, mostly Nakashima

Established Clan Member - Members who have achieved something

Clan member - Members who have not achieved anything.

Notable Clan Members

Senjuro Shigenobu - Commander
[Image: 2c06f7a6a8d31a98640f5f84857528c7.jpg]
Senjuro Shigenobu, affectionately referred to as "All Father" by all Shigenobu. A through and through warrior that takes no disrespect, nor insolence in his presence.
A man so driven and invested in the war against the agents of Fel, he has claimed he will see to it any clan member found practising such beliefs will have their bloodline burnt to restore their family's honour.

The "All Father" has one son, Shinichi Shigenobu, who will likely inherit the Shigenobu clan's Commander Title.

Shinichi Shigenobu

Shinchi Shigenobu is the "rightful" heir to the Shigenobu clan's mantle. However, the young lord is most known for his scandals, and rumours.

It is alleged the young lord had a child with a Faeborne maiden within Delphina, as such is pronounced by his absence from the Shigenobu's domain from the years 1105AD to 1106 AD, but this could never be confirmed nor denied.

Nakashima accuse him of being a follower of the Fourfold Path, and an eroder of traditions and customs. This frequently sparks conflict, where his father, a Nakashima has to protect his son's honour.

The young lord is perceived as a disrespectful yet silver-tongued deviant within the clan. The Nakashima are praying some Moriyama replaces him by some weird circumstance. But this is... unlikely.

Year: 2128

The Chronicles of the Shigenobu

On the year of 2128 the child of Shinichi Shigenobu, the bastard wielding the name "Shimasu" has sent forth a declaration prior to her homecoming to the realm. The declaration is publicly available for all clan members to read:
Quote:"Righteous sons and daughters of Ualdir I, Shiri Shi Shimasu have brought forth a promising opportunity. Should you desire to thread your own path, should you desire to spread your wings within another land and should you seek to acquire your own valor beneath the eventual heir to this household; You will come to The Kingdom of Fortune. You will seek me out, and we will discuss your possibilities.

I am also hereby announcing my ward,
Magdaline, who will inherit anything that has been promised to me or in my possession."

The rumours bare truth!
Shinichi has an heir!

A bold declaration from the bastard child, she had not spent one day within the clan's lodging, and she had already declared herself to be the eventual heir. This has angered some Nakashima clansmen, whilst the Moriyama remain weary of the comeuppance of a potential Nakashima. They are unaware of the impending destruction to be levied upon the Nakashima at Shinichi's behest.
Opinions are divided on this matter within the clan, but the current Commander Senjuro remains apathetic to his grand-daughter's ramblings. No Shigenobu are barred from pursuing this endeavour if they desire to thread their own path, however they are urged to never forget their roots as Shengese.

As with the announcement of another heir, the Shigenobu's line of succession remains strong, atleast upon first glance.

"The day of judgement draws nearer. The Sundering will commence soon..." - Shinichi Shigenobu

Year: 2132AC
[Image: 0e039e00c88257fbab9761a3b455b6fc.jpg]
The Chronicles of the Shigenobu

Proceeding the year of 2128AC, to 2132AC The Shigenobu Clan endured a minor schism which had been threatening to expand further. Due to the eventual Heiress' declaration, many disillusioned Shigenobu made their way to their way to Fortune. The Shigenobu of the Kingdom of Fortune had diverged greatly from the clan within Xuefeng, particularly in their culture, religious freedoms, and general outlook in life.

Those who resided within Fortune seemed to be more open-minded, and family oriented despite their loose relation. But the former was likely changing, as the eventual heiress is rumored within the clan to be a fierce worshipper of Athelios. This information was very hard to come by, and it was only a fleeting rumor.
The notable part of this schism, is that the Shigenobu of Fortune did not feel at all beholden to those of Xuefeng, including the Commander. This has agitated the Nakashima of the clan, as it seems to be an overt power grab at the behest of the Heir, Shigenobu Shinchi. It is believed, those outside of the Nakashima's sphere of influence would be less inclined to follow them. That, coupled with the fact that the daughter of the Heiress' religion was not known beyond conjecture exacerbated the problem.

This culminated in a debacle outside of Gold Light, where Mifune S. Irontail declared the Shigenobu of Fortune to be defectors for land. This has further enraged those of Xuefeng with the small few whom were in Fortune.

There were three notable Shigenobu during this period, and they were:
Shigenobu Shirin,
a young marine who strived for excellence, improvement, and to protect those she cares for.
Shigenobu Akaza,
a gender challenged young individual with a big heart, who like Shirin, strives to improve themself.
and Shigenobu Tenchi,
revered as a prodigy by Shigenobu Shiri, as well as other members of their clan. At a young age, he is a skilled combatant capable of taking on, and sometimes defeating adults.
It is well documented, within the Kingdom of Fortune the Shigenobu clan lived a rather comfortable life due to the success and efforts of Shigenobu Shiri, a sizeable lodging provided by the King within Nilhirra, which functions as barracks for the marines in Fortune, and reportedly a mansion within Sapphire Bay.

In exchange and by convention, all Shigenobu of age are enlisted into the marines. In fact, some Shigenobu have found their way into important government positions.

Such as, Shigenobu Akaza who had become a Retainer for Princess Meri Emeraldi, and Shigenobu Shiri, who became the Ambassador of Fortune after serving as a Reconnaissance Officer, and then a Seneschal. This is no indication however, that life was at all without struggle on Fortune.

The eventual Heiress' statements on the Melionette Chronicle had turned clan members whom desired to know of how life in Fortune was going, as well as the general activities of the clan, curious. Beyond that curiosity, there was a more sinister truth. The Shigenobu Clan had found itself in the middle of a war between the Kingdom of Fortune, and the Deathwind Fleet.

For the righteous sons and daughters of Ualdir, such a thing was seen as admirable, a memento to the Shigenobu of old.

But in truth, the Shigenobu present within Fortune by and large, did not come to Fortune to fight. It was quite the opposite, particularly in the case of Shigenobu Shirin, who had specifically left home to not see battle.

But the rumors suggest as of the year 2132AC, many of the Shigenobu have changed, becoming more acclimated to their circumstances, and very reminiscent of the older way of doing things in regard to honor. In the case of Shirin, it is rumored not only had she stood in the defense of a comrade against an agent of the Fel, but she had challenged the eventual Heiress, and her cousin to dominion over the clan members within the Kingdom of Fortune by the right of a duel.

It is further rumored, that the battle is to be endured in a secret location, away from prying eyes as the outcome of this battle will not be observed by others.

The Sundering,
Draws nearer. In preparation for what is to be endured, Shigenobu Shi Shiri issued a harsh order to Shigenobu Shirin, and Shigenobu Akaza:

Quote:"Decide which of you will attend the mediation of the dispute between clan members within Xuefeng"

Ultimately, the Shigenobu chose to resolve this question with conflict, though it was not the eventual heiress who had decided it should be solved this way. It had been the two privy to the decision. It was however, strongly encouraged by the eventual heiress. To remedy Shirin's disadvantage, an injury to her circuitry, Akaza was placed under harsher circumstances to succeed. He was given the Heiress' equipment and attire to engage in this battle.

It was hard fought, participants who had observed, which included various members of Fortune, including the eventual Heiress Shirin found the duel honorable, a good fight between both combatants.

However, Shirin arose victorious, and given her disadvantage, as well as the strength of Akaza himself, this had served to make her victory all the more impressive and noteworthy.

In the afterglow of Shirin's success, laid Akaza's defeat. The trio endured a large dispute, which saw Shirin doing her best to encourage her fellow clan member, as the eventual heiress stood in silent observation.

The hour draws nearer...

The Eve of 2134

A Valiant Requiem

Within the secluded halls of the Shigenobu's noble domain, clan members of all factions, types, and personal beliefs gather. The Commander, and the Heir sit beside each other as a choir sings to them in a soothing, yet holy manner.  It is a silent endeavor for those not singing. The Heir's daughter had been invited to attend this ceremonial gathering, a recollection of heroes of old.
Alas, she, nor her clansmen residing within Fortune did not attend, and no word had been written back. Some men find this a grave disrespect upon the clan's honor, but, before their thoughts are left to wander, the choir grows softer, as if asking them to speak.
Until abruptly, an organ is played, softly, but it swells powerfully.  It sounds righteous, valiant, and awe-inspiring. The clan members in participation are left in a trance by the beautiful nature of the organ, and the choir briefly, in tandem, before having been overcome by the powerful sound the organ made.

A Blest Reprieve

Beyond their domain, the Shigenobu of Fortune find themselves in more conflict than they could've anticipated. Some clan members growing, forsaking their cowardice to meet the demands the world had thrust upon them. Shiri Shi Shigenobu, Hime, and the Leader of the clan has taken an expressed leave of absence from her Ambassadorial job within the Kingdom of Fortune to focus upon her family, and running the clan.  Weirdly enough, her leave of absence had been demanded after the declaration of reconquest was levied upon Korcula.

The clan still officially resides within Fortune, and still many frequent those lands. But Magdaline Shigenobu, the supposed heir to the Hime's possessions has joined the Goldlight Order, subverting expectations, though the vast majority remain marines.

A declaration of war had been levied upon the Kasca's, Akaza Shigenobu, and Shiri Shi Shigenobu had been personally invested in the lands the Kasca's presided over, as well as them themselves. For that reason, the Shigenobu's forces are by and large, pulled from Korcula and redirected to Londo, although a small amount would still participate, the Hime found the presence of the clan whilst recapturing Korcula to be unnecessary, as the allies to which the Kingdom of Fortune held upon that endeavor far surpasses what they were presently capable of.

In sharp contrast, at the time of the declaration of war by Diallos Equisol, Londo had no firm supporters or allies.

Further more, The Hime saw this as a benefit to King Marfons, as the Shigenobu themselves, deeply connected with the Kingdom of Fortune upheld his position of cooperation and allyship with Londo when he was far too occupied to do so. But this was not discussed, nor did the Hime care to ask for permission in such a matter. Diallos Equisol, someone the heiress had seen grow from a young man, and she knew his close family quite well, according to vague rumors.
Never would she of believed they would be on opposing sides of war, nor that she would stand against him. But it had to be done.

A change of heart

Shirin Shigenobu, once claimed, and known to be the weakest member of the clan had a rapid growth in strength, she has become one of the clan's finest, and she bares full honors in the eyes of her clansmen for that. The duel between herself and the Hime had been shrouded in mystery, some rumors state Shirin won that battle, others claim it was inconclusive, and a few said the Heiress herself had won. Whatever had truly occurred, the Heiress remained in possession of the clan's leadership. Though, if some rumors are to be believed, that was likely never been the purpose of the duel to begin with.

Clan members begin engaging valiantly against various undead, at different times. Magdaline Shigenobu, and Toki Shigenobu had both won their respective battles against the forces of darkness, but the journey to the pinnacle of strength was harder for Shirin, and Tenchi. Both found themselves injured, and both had lost to undead. Tenchi Shigenobu received a harrowing scar upon his features, seared to his face to remind him of the day he had acted in the interests of Shirin, to protect her. And he holds no regret, he only wishes he had been stronger.

Akaza Shigenobu, the most interesting of the bunch had decided to become a doctor, studying Medicine within Londo. Queen Asterin Kasca has volunteered to teach the people of Fortune medicine within their lands, and it is appreciated, not just from the Shigenobu.  A new clan member was inducted, Toki Shigenobu, and thus far he has shown himself to be a loyal, and promising member.

Rumors have spread, each member of the clan had been given a Dogmata, and instructed to read it. But this could not be confirmed.

In tandem with this, lucrative business dealings facilitated by the clan has enabled the Sword of the Heiress, Justia to financially support the clan's endeavors and activities.

A unified Household

The clan has changed tremendously, not only in the strength of its members, but the strength of the bonds of those within it. More than strength, the Shigenobu Clan has harmony, and unity. They act in tandem. Usually, if a Shigenobu says the clan will do something, more often than not, the clan will exact on that promise. Of course, there are limits to this. But the Shigenobu exist as a unified front, beholden only to themselves and personal accountability.

Interestingly, the clan exerts itself as a military force, though, only a very small one, which is somewhat weak compared to the monsters of Meranthe. Some members are wary of this progression, as it seems to be a trap that will encourage more bloodshed. But they are reassured, only in the most righteous and just causes will they stand on behalf of others.

The Hime fancies herself righteous, and she expects her clan to live in that image, the image of those who stand against evil, the image of those will fight against the forces of the Fel whenever necessary, the image of those who do not prostrate themselves before vile men who warrant questioning.

Yet still, members of the clan are aware that they are not yet enough to truly stand against the threats of Fortune, nor the threats levied upon innocents by the forces of the Fel. And so, they dive deeper within themselves. Training, dueling, battling, exploring, and learning. More than harmony, they need strength to ensure the forces of evil will never win.

The clan has spread their presence, making many allies and comrades, Magdaline Shigenobu to which sharing a bond with servants of Mortyl, as did the Shigenobu extend the olive branch to the Nightfall, Kascas, and of different lands, and empires.

The clan intends to grow it's size, so that it eventually becomes a formidable force.

The Eve of 2135

End of an Era.

The Shigenobu clan bids the Kingdom of Fortune farewell, in a heartfelt, and explosive meeting between the Matriarch of the Emeraldi Household, Rio Emeraldi, and the Hime of the Shigenobu Clan among others, both the Emeraldi Household, and the Shigenobu have decided it is mutually beneficial to part ways. It is said, the Heiress of the clan demanded exile from the Kingdom of Fortune, and it was denied on all counts by the Matriarch of the Emeraldi's

A plan had been concocted, strum together to put forth a defense of the Kingdom's existence before their mortal enemies, the Deathwind Fleet, one to which in varying ways wound up unsuccessful. Initially, this had been due to a lack of experience from the Heiress. A grand failure she would learn greatly from.

The parting of the Shigenobu Clan from the Emeraldi's sphere of influence had been building for years, smaller disagreements overtime compounded and ultimately made it untenable for all parties. As
King Marfons Emeraldi had left the picture, relations rapidly, and swiftly deteroriated between both households.
But this does not mean the bond is entirely severed, however.

Perhaps, one day what was lost can be mended, but that day likely will not be anytime soon.

The will of the free!
The Free people, trusted allies and partners of the Shigenobu clan due to prior discussions held between the Heiress, and Stiltzkin Koz have called upon the might of the Shigenobu clan to contribute to their forces standing with the Sacred Coalition.

The Shigenobu answer the call of help from their allies without question, the Heiress personally dispatches the finest Magi the clan can offer, including its own Champion:

Magdaline Shigenobu, Commander of the Shigenobu Forces within the Sacred Coalition, and representative of the clan's intentions.
Tenchi Shigenobu, Vice Commander and second in command of the Shigenobu's Forces within the Sacred Coalition.
Aricles Alline, Technical Advisor to the Commander of the Shigenobu's Forces.
Toki Shigenobu, a member of the Shigenobu Infantry Company.
The Shigenobu clan has also sent word to the Nightfallen, once again inquiring of their services, to be further discussed at another date. The clan suppliments it's forces presented to the Sacred Coalition with mercenaries, and as such, it will be easy to find employment from the Shigenobu within this period of time.

Diplomatic Envoys.

Seeing the Heiress is currently unable to run the clan, due to other commitments on behalf of the Republic within the Ruby Empire, her roles are delegated in full to other clan-members who have shown aptitude, and promise.

Akaza Shigenobu, Legate and Representative of the Shigenobu clan. Currently, he is tasked to assume duties within Londo. The clan is busy, and although they'd like to show their support in full to the people of Londo, they're currently not capable of doing such in great numbers. As such, all requests are to be directed to Akaza Shigenobu who will handle the necessary communication and scheduling on behalf of the clan.

Shirin Shigenobu, Hatamoto of the Shigenobu Clan. The term literally means "Guardian of the Flag". She has been dispatched in support of the Free People, to serve as a representative of the clan, and defender of the lands should it be deemed necessary by them.

Crushing debt.

The Shigenobu clan has acquired a tremendous amount of debt, loose estimates from observes suggest the total debt is atleast 500,000 Crowns. The Clan's Heiress sees this debt as necessary for funding the clan's operations, and intentions.

In fact, it is rumored a section of this debt is owed to an Emeraldi, though which is unknown.

Tenants, changes, and culture:

Tenants of the Shigenobu:

1. The clan's religion, nor the religion of those resided within the clan must never be discussed publicly.
2. The Clan's pride, and honor must never be transgressed by its members. Hold yourself in high regard, and moral esteem.
3. Respect one's superiors, follow all lawful and moral orders unquestioningly.
4.

Do not bring dishonor upon the clan.

Cultural Changes:
The Shigenobu are highly competitive, and honor driven. Members of the clan frequently try to upstage eachother in combat.

The Shigenobu clan has structured it's "clansmen" into an Infantry Company, which all clansmen who do not serve within another capacity, are a part of. The Commander of this Infantry Company is the prodigy of the clan, Tenchi Shigenobu.

The Heiress of the clan has begun developing the clan's own dialect of the native Faeborne Tongue, this will be later expanded at another time.

The Eve of 2136AC: Elegy

The Battle of the Bloody Harvest

The Shigenobu clan, at the behest of it's Heiress stood in the defense of the Kozak's farmlands. Whether or not this decision was wise, was debatable, but it had been deemed mutually beneficial, as well as a just cause. Initially, such defense was made through means of diplomacy, and cunning, in an attempt to ensure the safety of the land was not transgressed. However, as time passed, the bloodlusted enemies of humanity sought to take advantage of the clan's stagnant position.  A familiar enemy, one both the Heiress and Hatamoto had fought in an attempt to render justice upon them for their evil deeds.

A series of battles endured, the clan's prodigy, Tenchi Shigenobu, and Heiress, Shiri Shi Shigenobu ultimately laid defeated before the superior force, but one hero stood tall. Shirin Shigenobu, the presenting Hatamoto of the clan. Ultimately, she defeated the progressing force, driving the forces of evil back, into the darkness.  She received praise from the clan for this achievement, but this victory would be short-lived.

Months later, delivering assets to the Kozak's, the farmlands were under assault once more, but this time, it was different. The Heiress was forced to stand against Imperium, an attempt to escape into the foliage had been cut off, a magical beast, Skrong, failing to intervene in time to stop the impending battle, forcing the Hime to engage decisively despite her prior injuries. A brutal battle ensued, where the the clan's leader had been thoroughly outmatched, countered, and defeated.  Both combatants were fighting in a deadly manner, and the wounds of that battle would reflect that. The Heiress ultimately lost her right arm, her shoulder being torn from its socket, ripped out as it was waved around within the air as a display of terror, and victory. A worthwhile trophy, the Heiress' third eye taken from her.

The fields of the Kozaks were stained with the blood of the Shigenobu, and it did not end there. Within the distance, Toki Shigenobu found himself engaged as well. Another loss, on two fronts. The Undead progressed, making his way through the magical beast, Skrong, but this was not without significant effort, leaving the undead Veda to once more engage Shirin. A thorough defeat was levied, the Heiress' sister had her throat cut open.

The clan laid thoroughly defeated, Alreth Shigenobu, a less experienced clansman observed the battle in shock, and horror. A battlefield so vile, so gruesome. Unlike what the clan had ever experienced prior.

But it was not done there, displaying the true depths of her insanity despite the helpless situation, the Heiress challenged a nearby undead to a battle, manic, and deranged, she fought, but ultimately lost. As such, she commanded a retreat, and so? The Shigenobu left the scene, leaving it in the hands of a Mortyl Knight, named Laxel.

Disorder within the ranks.

The decisions of the Heiress bear heavily upon the clan, forcing them into life or death scenarios, compelling them to support her reckless, and verbose ramblings on how one's morals should be. This has seen the 'departure' of Shirin Shigenobu from the clan's leadership, throwing her Manto into the Heiress' face in protest of her behavior, where-as Alreth Shigenobu is missing in action, likely having ran away, or defected from the clan due to the brutal circumstances of the bloody harvest. Some members have even given up on combat entirely.

This disorder spreads, external factors seek to influence the clan, to ensure its path is set to a civil war within itself. For the vile Heiress' decisions bring them to the brink of ruin, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for her actions. Unrest grows, as clan members feel a sense of impending doom, the collapse of what had been built off of the back of their labor.

The clan seems set for its own demise, spiraling downward at a terrifying rate. But within the hearts of a few, it can still be salvaged.

The Grand Regent, The Chamberlin, and the Inheritor.

The mental state of the Heiress becomes the question of many, slipping deeper into depression, slipping deeper into insanity, being unable to manage the clan's affairs after all that had occurred. Noticing her own disposition, she appoints her lover, Justia of Gloomlight to serve as the clan's Grand Regent, to serve as a pillar for her clansmen as she cannot be what the clan needs within her state.

Further delegating her authority, the Heiress assigns a fresh Moriyama Shigenobu to serve as the clan's political representative, her name is Valentine Shigenobu. A witty young woman with a desire to prove herself to the clan, she wields a lot of ambition, and as such, she is empowered to prove herself, to bring honor to the clan.

Magdaline Shigenobu, the daughter of the Heiress, and the Grand Regent has seen an increase in her authority, serving as the clan's inheritor, she is given the ability to make decisions in the stead of the Heiress. Now, she is forced to pull her own weight, long since denied the right as she was too young, the time was nigh for others to show their worth. And she intends to not disappoint.

Recovery

Following the proceedings of the bloody harvest, the Heiress is seen very little by others, retreating deep within the seas to a location she considers her sanctuary, she is welcomed by someone familiar. As such, Shirin declares her break from her duties as Hatamoto to be temporary, though she is not ready to resume activity. Many members of the clan are exhausted, worn out, and defeated by the stressors of the environments they are in.

But it is not over, within the hearts of those who have lost burns a desire to overcome, even if it had been dimmed by the defeats that had been suffered, or the public disagreements with Gloomlight's leading figures enacted by the Heiress.

Such disagreements, and policies within Gloomlight lead others to believe the Heiress is disillusioned with the holy city, given her rumored insanity, who knows what the outcome of this may be?

Will this be the demise of the Shigenobu clan? Entirely, and exclusively the fault of their proclaimed Heiress, wasting their lives upon a nameless battlefield with no laws?
Or will the clan remain united, to overcome the challenges they face, to become diamonds under pressure, rather than mere ashes in the rubble of what could've been. Will they rise to meet the expectations, acquire strength capable of protecting their allies, and themselves? Or will they crumble under the weight of expectations?

It is to be seen, but the fire of passion, desire, and righteousness burns valiantly for those who serve the clan, even if temporarily it is severely dampened.

The Eve of 2137AC: Long Live the Clan.
Or death to them and their allies.

The Implosion.

United, yet divided, the Sacred Coalition, in tandem with the Shigenobu Clan and it's forces methodically assist, and aid areas deemed to be strategically significant, as well as in need of the coalition's aid. Within the Ruby Empire, this was evident, and within Londo, preparations are still under-way, by and large led by the Commander of Shigenobu Forces to the Sacred Coalition, and the clan's new Heiress, Magdaline Shigenobu.

She is well received, a purpose driven and work oriented leader who has put her best foot forward to defend the territory of Londo. But she is not alone, aided by members of the clan such as Toki Shigenobu, and the residents of Londo, her efforts are further empowered, and she does not disappoint.

In the backdrop of Magdaline's Herculean efforts to assist the allies of her clan, the clan suffers an internal implosion not known to those who do not have a personal connection to the clan. The former Hatamoto of the Shigenobu clan, though dispatched to Londo, never arrived to her post. Be that for justified reasons or otherwise, this would eventually become the root cause of the clan's sudden, yet swift implosion.

Details are very scarce on what truly occurred, however, it is said a missive issuing the disbanding of the Shigenobu clan as a military force had been sent throughout the clan, and all those who seek to leave, were granted the right to leave the clan without judgement. The former Hatamoto in particular was either given permission to conduct harakiri by the former Heiress, or encouraged to, to restore her honor, as well as having been banished from the clan.  This incident tore a major rift within the clan itself, where-in each individual was forced to pick a side.

Notably, the Grand Regent stood in defense of the former Hatamoto, where-as the Chamberlain stood with her Hime. Whatever the result of this might've been, or the validity of these claims, none of the clan's members elected to leave, in fact, the dedication to the collective progression of the clan's best interest, and shone through from all parties involved.

Experts believe that it was a bluff from the Hime to issue a disbanding order, as that would directly sabotage her own daughter's efforts within Londo, and further weaken it before the forces of the demonic invasion. But if it had been a bluff, that leaves the question:

"What was she trying to achieve, and why exactly was such a drastic measure taken?"

Beyond those personally affiliated with the clan, and even to those directly involved, these questions may, or may not, be obvious. Some, simply, believe it is due to the Hime's insanity.
Whatever the result of these endeavors, the former Hatamoto remains, firmly, a member of the clan, to the pleasure, and displeasure of others within the clan itself. Opinions are highly divided.

The matter seems to have been resolved, though the lasting consequences are to be seen. Further developments have also pushed all of the clan's manpower and resources into supporting, and defending Londo and her people.

A bond once forged, made permanent.

The former Heiress, and Queen of Londo conducted a private meeting to discuss various matters. From military strategy, to the solidification of the Shigenobu as a staunch ally of Londo and her residents. They themselves, would join her, and such a bond would be permanent. The known results of this agreement are as follows:

The Leader of the Shigenobu Clan will inherit the title Viscount, or Viscountess.
The Shigenobu clan will, themselves, become Knights of Londo, and all those willing to fight, and are of age, will join the Emberheart Legion.
The Shigenobu Clan losses some of its personal autonomy as it acts in service to the Queen of Londo.

As such, Shiri Shi Shigenobu undertakes the new title: Viscountess, and her daughter, Magdaline Shigenobu is poised to inherit that upon her demise.

New Opportunities.

Daiki Tengoku has been given authorization by the Viscountess, if he so desires to set up a Cadet Branch of the Shigenobu clan. It will be given the resources, and strength of the wider clan, although if he elects to take on this mantle, he will be the deciding factor in this new clan's fate.

The Chamberlain is empowered as a beaucrat, instructed to not only levy, and collect taxes upon the clan, but to report the progress of the fortifications, and such within Londo. She will also serve as the assistant to the Viscountess.

In recognition of his efforts, Toki Shigenobu has been recognized as the Artisan of the Shigenobu clan. He is who the clan depends on when a structure needs to be built, whatever it may be. Possessing an affinity for combat fortifications, he functions at present more like a Sapper, or Combat Engineer.

With this development, the Viscountess of the Shigenobu clan intends to make the decision making process of the clan more democratic.
This would include a court where, the Grand Regent, The Chamberlain, the Heir/Heiress, the Hatamoto, and the Viscountess will vote on endeavors which the clan cannot agree on.

However, the leader of the clan holds executive authority to make decisions on behalf of the clan in times of crisis, or tremendous unrest.

 Customs, culture, and developments.

The Shigenobu clan further explores it's Shengese culture, specific rules for the act of Seppuku are dispatched:

1, If you say you will commit Seppuku, you cannot go back on such, unless you are stopped by a higher ranking individual, usually, of the Shigenobu, however otherwise can be authorized, in the case of Londo's leadership.

2, Do not take Harakiri lightly, failing to deliver on such, after declaring it will be done, warrants banishment from the clan if you are not stopped by a superior.

3, The clan's internal politics, problems, and gripes must never be discussed with members not of the clan. Secrecy is seen as the most valuable tool a Shigenobu can possess.

4, All clan members must contribute 3,000 crowns when taxes are levied. This money will be spent on ransoms, debt, and any other need the clan has at that time.

5, Treat each other fairly, and equally. Threats of violence must not be used to ensure loyalty from the clan. Might is not right.

RE: The Shigenobu Clan - Benyah - 10-05-2024

Language, Dialect, and Philosophy.

Dialect: Our Tongue

Shiri Shi Shigenobu, Hime of the Shigenobu clan as of late remains absent from the world at large, secluded in her residence, within Londo. Reportedly, the Heiress has become a hermit, or at the very least, has become too depressed to engage in public affairs at large. But even still, she could never allow herself to fall into inaction. She repurposes the time she spends alone to improve, and expand upon the language, and identity of the Shengese Faeborne.

Dal'Tan (Our Tongue) has been shifted from something she considers a language, missives are dispatched throughout the clan declaring the tongue a dialect of Wylden, and therefore improper to use among strangers, or in official proceedings. Certain statements, particularly "Dor'ichiwa" have lost their original formal meaning, becoming less formal, and more-so a term used to greet those whom you truly trust in an informal, or relaxed manner due to the backlash that had been bestowed upon the tongue by Faeborne society at large.

Language: Kumin

"Mi ga'soru!" meaning: The Sun has risen, for another day! This means good morning in a very enthusiastic manner. It can also be used as a greeting, typically when excited to see another person, entity, or place.

"Ki ga'nara" meaning: I will go. This phrase is an idiom the Sheng-Fae in question is highly dedicated, invested, or willing to engage in whatever that particular endeavor may be. Once this phrase is uttered, it is seen as dishonorable and disrespectful to not follow through with such a declaration.

"Tu ga ringo o na'kara" meaning: It is uneaten. This phrase expresses a lack of interest, or outright denies participation in an activity or endeavor. It can also be used to indicate the Sheng-Fae in particular sees beyond the veil of that particular situation, into what is actually, and truly occurring around them. In essence, it is not falling for propaganda or trickery.

"Ni ga hika, ri ga'nara" meaning: Because of you, I dream. This phrase expresses love, adoration, or admiration for another person or thing. It carries a lot of weight and should not be said lightly.

"
Kara'mas" meaning: Go fuck yourself. This is self-explanatory. This is very offensive.

"Ni ga mi no kor'ama?" meaning: Are you in? Though this can be used in any context, within the Shigenbu clan this specifically pertains to the question asked before members are committed to combat. It can also mean "Are you with us?"

"
Ki ga sora ni'nara." meaning: I bid you my heart. Used in the event a loved one will never be seen again, or has perished.

"Ri'na" meaning: Goodbye. Used whenever desired.

The language of Kumin is very vibrant and personal. Sentences in Kumin are meant to be spoken with the very soul of the person in question. When a phrase in Kumin is uttered, the question, greeting, or farewell means something to the Sheng-Fae in question. As such, it wouldn't typically be used in casual discussion unless it is warranted.

Philosophy: Mortal Jurisprudence

An excerpt from a book the Heiress has been writing contains her unique philosophy, it states:

"Justice pertains to the correction of injustice, or proliferation of righteous ideals in the vision of the God in question, which the Sheng-Fae worships. Within this context, justice is utilitarian. It endeavors to seek the benefit of the majority, rather than the individual, even at the expense of the individual. Justice sacrifices itself for the collective benefit of society and others. To uphold the moral order, and trust in your fellow mortal to do right by you.

No matter the price, justice must be delivered. Be that, sacrificing one's self to save a comrade who is deserving of such, due to their past merits, or impact on the individual in question, or simply ensuring all aspects of an individual's unique situation are considered. After all, not all witches become witches with the expressed intent of doing and proliferating evil. Many, are tricked, forced, or thrust into such a position where often, the true consequences of their actions are not considered by themself or are ultimately lesser than the immediate peril they face by neglecting to agree to such a vile deed. In the case of undead, they do not have a choice in the matter.

When you are given a second chance at life by a practitioner of the dark arts who portrays herself to be on the level of a god who can grant and take life, most spirits will accept their new fate. Why is it their fault? Is it not the fault of the being who chose to violate the lifestream for its own benefit? Redemption is the only answer to this equation for the undead spirit in question.

As such, true justice acknowledges this. Justice remains a bastion of hope within our world, for the underprivileged, for those born to gods, for the common-folk, for the noble folk, for those who are hated, for those who are loved, for those who are not known, for the unaffiliated and uninitiated who can't seem to catch a break from the woes of this world.

All mortal beings are entitled to justice, regardless of if they are the benefactor of such and victim to a wrong, or the perpetrator and accomplice of such vile intent.  Justice remains a mortal right all individuals are entitled to, regardless of creed, and that is the mortal blessing of conscience.

I think then the people of this world should neglect to engage in senseless wars, executions, and killings of those who serve only the environment they were thrust into. The only difference between an Atrellyan child, and a child of Meranthe is the fact that one was born within Atrellya and as such socialized to believe in the things that they do.
If we choose to believe we can selectively give, or take the right to justice from mortal beings and souls, then we are gods ourselves, and we have failed to understand the true nature of the mortal disposition, how prone it is to error, manipulation, and even death."

This excerpt in particular of the book she is working on has been leaked, others may, or may not know of it. Whether the clan adopts the Hime's philosophy on Justice, ultimately, is solely dependent upon them. She rarely ever interacts with the clan, or others personally anymore to begin with.

2142: The Final Act.

In the years proceeding 2137 the Shigenobu clan endures tremendous changes, its structure becomes decentralized, many members simply break off from the Heir's sphere of influence, to form their own families or to pursue their own opportunities. These incidents were never met with ire, they were endorsed and encouraged. By extension, the diaspora of the Sheng-Fae either return to Xuefeng, or Dal'Thala, having seen how life truly is outside their homes where they are not understood, or incompatible with some aspects of life.
Having been exiled from Londo, he has sent his son away, but the location is not known. Following the declarations, and circumstances surrounding For he shall not be mockedThe Aphrosian Dogmata, the splinteringthe Hime's Gambit and a duel to the death among other factors, such as the break-up between herself, and her former Grand Regent she holds several meetings with the Non Magi of her clan.
In the most notable of these, he reveals all of his deeds and secrets to them, including the most vile ones of them all, which he had managed to keep hidden. He instructs them, upon his demise, whenever it may be, they will be free to write in extensive detail concerning the truth of the life he had lived, who he truly served, how he did so, what he truly believed, and what he had done in Midpoint, Fortune, Xuefeng, and Prospera.

Within this meeting he expressed deep and sincere regret, as well as pain over several things:

1. The failure of things to work out in Fortune.
2. Not treating those around her better.
3. Missing the deceased, such as King Marfons, Lavenza Malibu, Ashwin, Levius Malibu, Madayavanna Gregoris and others.
4. Having chosen a life like her own in an attempt to have herself known, and remembered.
5. Not being able to find the words to soothe the pain of her clan members.
6. Not having more to give her clan.
7. Not taking as much credit as possible for her deeds within Fortune.
8. Feeling betrayed by those she had trusted deeply, several times throughout her life.
9. Being unable to control her emotions, or let go of grudges.
10. Being excessively arrogant and prideful.

Within this meeting, at points he was barely coherent, although on the surface he would seem fine, his body seemed decayed as his mental state had met its limit having been isolated from society in an attempt to stay alive. In essence, it seemed to others as if he was visibly rotting and stricken with madness, hallucinations and a lack of coherency. In the beginning, from the first declaration of moving to Fortune, and declaring Magdaline Shigenobu as her heir, this circumstance was not how they all thought it would end.

Non-Magi clansmen would remark, the once glorious Hime was entirely alone, and isolated, oh how the mighty have fallen. How much of this was by choice, or circumstance was the question, as Akaza Shigenobu did, in fact, reach out to him, but he never responded as he did not have the money to do so. And those that remained, he relieved them of duty, and thanked them for their service to their clan with one final request:

"Remember me."

He does not ask them to fight for him any longer, he asks them to remember him, and live a long, and good life instead without making the mistakes he had within his time.

Visionaries of Grandeur has concluded, there will be no further forum posts in this thread.

Thank you to everyone who had consistently read this thread.

There will be a [Lore] Section post (eventually) concerning the life of Shiri Shi Shigenobu, and her ideology. This ideology will become a religion and can be adopted by other characters, the flaws of Shiri Shi Shigenobu will serve as a basis for the sins of this religion.
If anyone wants to make a Shigenobu, feel free to. You do not need permission to do so, this thread will serve as a historical basis of how the clan came to be known within Meranthe.
