Aphros' Bastion - Nailman - 08-06-2022

Aphros' Bastion
Description
With the changes in power structures to Aphros coming, there needs to still be order. While those of Astra and Umbra often separate in their daily lives to some degree, the military arm of the Oracle needs to remain organized despite the evident absence of a present head of state. To maintain organization, cohesion and unity within ranks, such order is instilled by the knights themselves until a new Oracle is appointed.

A temporary solution to a temporary issue, to maintain the army in the best shape possible for the next Oracle; Once a new one is appointed, the organization spearheaded by some knights of both orders pledges to be abolished if they so choose.

As such, they form
Aphros' Bastion

Ranking
To keep cohesion, a power structure is formed within the army, descendant of that which they used before. The hierarchy itself is loose on purpose, if only to not make the army too dependent on it. Notably, the ranks are shared between the arms of Astra and Umbra, but the purpose of the army is not to serve a specific branch but Aphros' theocracy itself - As such, while a Knight of Umbra has no need to respect the orders of a Knight of Astra, outranking itself transfers through branches - It is under the belief that a Knight of either path has achieved enough understanding of Athelios' balance to know when to remove their judgement and, more importantly, always keep in mind the best interest of the Theocracy.

Knight Captain
Knight Captains are to be the highest post of authority of the current organization of the Bastion; Their authority does little more than allow for broader, more immediately necessary tactical decisions and tie-breaking whenever the Knightly body of the order disagrees. As of the creation of the Bastion, the rank is currently held by Vaelrun Emris and Hadrian Dominic of Umbra and Astra respectively; Both have put the burden of ordering their organization upon themselves, spearheading the effort.

Knight
Knights are experienced and proven soldiers and officers of the Bastion, representatives of all which Astra and Umbra stand for. They are to make most decisions in the field, train squires, organize drills and maintain the civil order of Aphros. An important aspect of all Knights of the Bastion is that their numbers are never unbalanced - In fact, while there may be an imbalance in Men-at-arms or squires, their numbers have to be filtered in order to keep an equal number of Astral Knights and Umbral Knights, to provide a much needed balance to Aphros' Bastion.

Importantly, decisions made by Knights can be followed by Men-at-arms and squires, but this must be kept within reason. If boundaries, specifically those between the sects, are overstepped far too much without Knight Captain permission, they shall be punished.

Man-at-Arms
Men-at-arms are Squires which have proven themselves through either combat or tact decision making. They are soldiers which are capable of following orders in their fullest, and at this point, respond to a sect in specific. Their seniority confers them some additional authority over that which Squires have, even if they do not have enough to order any squire. They are, by and large, considered capable of acting on their own and to the best interest of both Aphros' and their specific branch.

Squire
Trainees and recruits, Squires are taken directly under Knights and are considered gemstones yet to be cut into proper shape. While they comprise a larger part of the army, they do not bear any authority whenever another outranking member of the Bastion is present, regardless of whichever branch they are in. In general, Squires are considered incapable of acting on their own, and their loyalty to the purpose of Athelios is still to be proven.

An in game guild has been made for Aphros' Bastion, if you are an Astral or Umbra Knight, or a squire- find Vaelrun Emris (and in the near future Hadrian Dominic) for a guild invite.
