RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Flump - 03-24-2024 Character: Kassius Astalet Event: The Forgotten Chateau Responsiveness: 10/10. Quick narrates, never felt like I was waiting overly long, responsive and patient to the small issues like people not being teleported. Great stuff. Balance: 7.5/10. The first two bosses felt really good! A little on the easier side, but I've no problem with that. The third and final boss felt a bit janky to me. It was always difficult to tell where the black holes were being placed due to the nature of them. If there's one, you can kinda keep your eye on it, but three or four whilst a ton of spells are flying? It's hard to see. Overall, enjoyable! Storytelling: 10/10. Absolutely fantastic. The direction of having us search several individual rooms felt really neat. I loved the puzzles, and felt really pleased with myself that the innocuous clock - easily dismissed by some - had served as the answer, it felt the exact right amount of obvious and not. The bookshelf one, which I didn't get, also seemed really cool! Just great stuff overall. Fairness: 10/10. Past the final boss? No issues, I enjoyed stuff! Never felt like I was punished just for being curious. Overall: 9/10. I really enjoyed the event! Things felt very cohesive, it didn't take too long, I always felt engaged. Fantastic stuff, and I'm really looking forwards to participating in another of OBC's events. RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Infrey - 03-24-2024 Character: Katrina Astalet Event: The Forgotten Chateau Responsiveness: Extremely responsive! There was very little waiting around for anything, narrates happened right away. Balance: I think it was pretty well balanced. We had three EC fights during it. The first one felt very well tuned, with a couple of people going down. The second was a touch too easy maybe, but it wasn't awful. The third was pretty tough, and I think it might have been hard for some builds. I personally really enjoyed it, and thought that it was fitting for a final boss in terms of difficulty. Lots of downs across the whole party, but it didn't feel like anyone was getting directly targeted. Storytelling: The whole gimmick of getting to decide what room to enter first was really fun, and the second door on the left fakeout made me snort. The general plot was fairly predictable, but I don't think that has to be a bad thing. I think that the modularity really worked to it's advantage here, with each area having a fun thing. Fairness: Seemed fair to me! I think that everyone took things seriously, and I didn't feel like anything was suddenly sprung on us with zero warning. Overall: I really don't have any complaints. OBC is clearly an experienced DM who knows what they are doing. I could have easily seen myself playing something along these lines as a tabletop adventure with my friends. Would love to do something like this again, if given the chance. RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Egomaniacal - 04-21-2024 Character: Bastis Hiraeth Event: Family fishing trip Responsiveness: 10/10. Quick narrates, never felt like I was waiting overly long. Actually, I felt like the DM spent more time waiting for us to stop mucking about to advance the plot. Balance: 10/10. Two bosses, both had their good qualities. The Kraken was a bit squisher but could do hella damage if we weren't careful, I wasn't so sure at first about it's difficulty until I realized that it wasn't the final boss, but the prelude to the secret plot twist boss. He was a challenge, there were moments even I felt like I needed to hide in a orner so I didn't get smotten, and worse-- He had a mainer accent.. Overall, enjoyable! Storytelling: 10/10. Absolutely fantastic. It's exactly what I wanted it to be, a fishing trip amongst family where bonding was readily encouraged, we all had freedom to do our own dumb shit. From Grilling, to fishing, to trying to keep the boat from falling apart. Culminating in a final treasure hunt, and a fight against a kraken. Just when we thought it was over, twist villian too, just as a cherry on top. Fairness: 10/10. Rewards were exactly what I expected for a low COD, Chill, Fishing event. Overall: 10/10. I'm biased here because I've been wanting something like this for a majority of my character. It was everything I wanted out of it-- Some cute flavor, some risk, some adventure. Ample time and encouragement to do our thing, and the DM adapting for so. I like, will make sure to schedule the next trip with a less sketchy captain though. Quick narrates. Any delays were due to the DM waiting for us to stop messing about. Balance: 10/10. The first boss - the kraken - was good. They were fairly easy, but not too much. The second boss went through stages, and got increasingly more punishing, but I never felt it was unreasonable. The one time I went down was very clearly due to me being too overly confident, so I enjoyed the feeling of needing to back off and launch quick assaults rather than being able to stick on their ass the entire fight. Storytelling: 10/10. A silly, goofy event with a serious plot twist. I really loved it, and it was a very nice break from the grimdark that a lot of people feel the need to whip out constantly. Fairness: 10/10. Great stuff, no issues with this. I got a C-tier material and six high-tier ores. About what I expect from a chill, goofy event. Overall: 10/10. I had a great time. I'm a hatpilled fashioncel. Additional Comments: BORN ON A MOUNTAIN RAISED IN A CAVE FISHIN AND FLUFFIN ARE ALL THAT I CRAVE. RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Zanero - 04-22-2024 Character: Kayne Lorillis Event: Family fishing trip Responsiveness: 10/10 — As usual, the responses were timely and inclusive, ensuring to acknowledge every action and most importantly to ensure everyone played a part in the event's activities. Balance: 10/10 — As an armed character, my input here is invalid... Jokes aside the power scaling was in tune with the EC's roles in the story and they made their presence felt. Storytelling: 10/10 — I enjoyed it quite a bit. The calmness of the biding suspense that detonated in an enjoyable plot twist drawing a fine line between friend and foe was well done! No complaints. Fairness: 10/10 — No one was made to feel like their efforts were in vain, I was left content. Overall: 10/10 — I'm quite happy with the event! I was invited a little later than most and even so, accommodations were made and I could go and have as much fun and impact as everyone else! RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Shanal - 05-19-2024 Character: Eivor Ualdirsson Event: Descent of the Black Dragon Pacing: It was perfect. The narrates were really quick, all while being heavily detailed and catering to the decisions made by the characters. Downtime was given when it was needed, room for plenty of interaction. Balance: The fights were decent, last one specially kept us on our toes, but the real challenges were the trials and traps. Creative approaches were rewarded, while not thinking things through could pretty much ruin you. The injuries on rolls were perfect for the risk as well. I liked it. Storytelling: Among the best I've ever experienced, if not probably the best. This event was very meaningful for Eivor as a character, and it was everything I could ask for and more. Really interactive progress rather than moving from one fight to the other, immersive with the pacing, prompting big character developments, and had huge lore expansions. As well as good future hooks to push for. Fairness: Reward-wise? I hadn't thought much about them going into this; incentive was mostly to explore more of the lore, and to push certain plot-lines, but I can definitely say that they had a lot of thought put into them; with narratives that were important to the participants, and significance fitting the risks. I loved mine specially, meant a lot to the character and his overarching story. Overall: One of the best events I've had. Thank you. RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Morath - 05-19-2024 Character: Morath Event: Descent of the Black Dragon Pacing: Quick narrates that were personalized to the characters and their RPs, even when we were late in the night already. Balance: The balance was great. All the fights required concentration, and the builds seemed fun to fight against. Storytelling: My favorite part. The lore given to us at the event was very interesting, and the way it was given to us worked perfectly to feed us with a lot of cool information. I liked it a lot. Fairness: My reward was really good. After I woke up the next day, I was able to read it, and the surprise was quite funny. Overall: a top-tier peak. RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Neighpalm - 05-19-2024 Character: Oceiros Dawnseeker Event: Descent of the Black Dragon Pacing: Pacing was phenomenal! For such a lore heavy event focusing mostly on trials/puzzles, the narrates came out extremely quickly, and even catered to what our characters were deciding to do. Balance: The fights felt like proper event fights, focusing mostly on the titular boss rampaging around the arena and having us rely on our instincts to not get hit by 5 fire waves for 50k. That is to say, they were balanced, and if you fell, it was due to your own hubris, not a soddy fight. The trials and traps were where the real danger was, however. I enjoyed having to use my brain to actually not suffer an injury. Storytelling: Incredible. As aforementioned, it was a very lore heavy event! While my character is more flavored towards Mortyl and death, I found myself enamored with the story and history of Felfyraxes, the Four Divines, and subsequent rivalry with Ualdir! I'm not a big lore buff as I usually play himbo characters that satisfy my need to read less, but I enjoyed every second of the lore here and how it connected to the wider world, and even what it means for the future! Fairness: For fairness, the fight/injury balancing was already mentioned. For rewards, we went into this not expecting anything specific. It was to push plotlines and learn, which we got ten fold, but the goodies were just the cherry on top! I got a lovely dev item tailored towards my magic and IC that I'm already ruminating on how to use for current plotlines. Overall: I don't event often, but I know this was at least top three. And it wasn't even my event! RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Astronomical - 05-19-2024 Character: Hina Lam Which Event: Descent of the Black Dragon Responsiveness: Incredible pacing! Each narration had heavy-lore content while being perceptive to all RPs made by everyone in the event, and we had six people on this one.. It was one of the most hyped up events I have been on yet and deserved to be for how detailed it was with lore of the Black Dragon. Balance: The Trials were CRAZY.. requirements for really thinking about how to approach each segment of the Trials, based on the tenets of Felfyraxes. Just... wow. You messed up? You roll; the punishments for messing up were motivating to really get you thinking for the next trial and how to go about it. The ECs were a challenge, holy FUCK.. I had to somehow shed my struggles with micromanagement just to really avoid the last EC : sob : Still insanely good, however. Storytelling: I won't lie.. this was the best events I've been on thus far. The amount of development on it to push a plotline that has since been kiiind of cut out since Shui Avintess and Togoshi Totsuki died was nothing BUT phenomenal. Each piece was interactive; I don't know how it could have gotten any better, but with how OBC writes? I don't think I would have been surprised if it somehow did!!! Getting to see the nemesis interactions between the Black Dragon and Ualdir, WITH AN EXPANSION OF PRIOR LORE, was invigorating. Oh my god. The build up from the beginning, the lore around it, the trials based on said lore, and then approaching the final EC was also very fluid and immersive. Fairness: Injuries were hella fair, the balancing for a party of six people was great, and the dev mats were all got were just... wow. It was all completely worth the almost.. 10(?) hours we all spent on this event. I wasn't sure what to even expect for a reward, but OBC's attention to details for characters is on point alongside the event theme. Overall: I'm impressed and I hope more can come out of this event and that OBC can run them because... goodness.. Any other comments: I'm scared, chat... The fear of the Black Dragon was put into me... RE: A DM with OneBrainCell - Gab - 05-20-2024 Character: Haoran Lam Which Event: Descent of the Black Dragon Responsiveness: Rapid fire narrates, but always mindful of the participating PC's own actions. Not a single step of their emotes was overlooked, however small. Balance: Finely tuned. The trials were not overbearing, but still unforgiving in face of a wrong answer or route of action. If any of us got silly it could've spelt doom. ECs were challenging and packed a hell of a punch, but displayed some move patterns that we could circumvent in order to beat (unless I'm out of whack). Storytelling: The zenith of this event. The lore you crafted for Descent of the Black Dragon was DENSE. The method of narration employed also immersed me even further into the whole thing. Lastly, the way you conducted the early cave crawling and the settings where each trial took place also shone bright. Fairness: As forementioned, obstacles presented just the right amount of challenge and punishment, but that still didn't fall into pitfalls common to many events. A HCoD through and through. Overall: Splendid job. Thank you for your dedication and time! |
